Department Information

The School of Health Science and Human Movements (HSHM) vision is to be the peoples choice for Health Science and Human Movement degree programs through the delivery of innovative instruction to establish a wide range of professions. The HSHM mission provides broad theory-based foundations which incorporate laboratory and field-based learning opportunities resulting in real-world experience training inter-professional education and mentoring. Our students from varying backgrounds develop skills that promote healthy lifestyles and fitness. Students graduate ready to seek employment or pursue advanced education in fields of health science human movement or related professions. Graduates are ethical and productive contributors to the health and well-being of their communities.


The School of Health Sciences and Human Movement offers 4 degrees:


  • BS in Exercise Science Physical Education and Recreation (emphasis in General Exercise Science Strength and Conditioning Physical Education and Recreation)
  • BS in Health Science (emphasis in General Health Science Health Coaching Pre-Athletic Training Pre-Nursing and Public Health).
  • BAS in Health Science and Administration (online degree for allied health professionals).
  • MS in Athletic Training (32 program available)

Description of Job

This is a full-time teaching position. Responsibilities of this position include teaching and mentoring undergraduate students in the Exercise Science programs; contributing to program curricular needs in the School of Health Sciences and Human Movement; Contributing to other program needs such as advising curriculum management meetings tutoring etc. The teaching expectation is 24 hours per academic year and possible courses include but are not limited to: Intro to Exercise Science PE Rec Drugs and Healthy Lifestyles Personal Health Personal Health Lab etc. This position requires fulfilling basic service duties to the program college university and/or profession. This position may include additional teaching during the summer session annually with additional pay or possible rotation of load.

Primary Duties
Teach courses in the Exercise Science PE Rec degree program in accordance with program needs and assessment standards. This includes preparing and presenting course materials according to department curricular needs; administering appropriate evaluation of student performance; selecting and ordering texts; preparing administering and grading assignments; and assigning final grades. It will also include proposing curriculum changes and program modifications to the Coordinator of Human Movement and meeting with students during office hours concerning course assistance mentoring or any other concerns.

Conduct student advising/mentoring to ensure appropriate course work is completed to accomplish program objectives. This requires the faculty member to establish post and communicate with students regularly with scheduled office hours each week and more during registration periods (part of the office hours will be spent supporting teaching).

Participating in service to the department college university and profession. Participate in committees campus meetings University functions graduation professional service work and other duties as assigned.



Ancillary Duties

Participating in recruitment or retention activities program review assessment strategic planning or other assistance to the school as needed.

Conduct and engage in scholarly activities such as professional research presentations publications grant writing review journals or textbooks attend conferences provide duties on research projects etc.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Exercise Science Recreation or closely related field
  • Strong collegial and collaborative skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience with and commitment to work with groups that represent the CSU Pueblo population.
  • Successful experience in college teaching.
  • Experience and/or commitment to the use of technology as an instructional tool including teaching online or hybrid courses.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Current NSCA CSCS certification
  • Current NBHWC certification
  • Ability to teach a broad range of courses at the undergraduate level
  • Contemporary experience in the field of Exercise Science Recreation and/or Strength and Conditioning.
  • Experience and/or commitment to work within a standard and performance-based teaching models
  • Evidence of scholarly work and outcomes
  • Experience in student recruitment outreach activities and curriculum development.
