Focused Energy is a fusion energy startup with the goal of generating unlimited clean energy to responsibly meet future global demand. With the use and commercialization of laser-induced inertial fusion a clean and highly efficient power generation technology is coming within reach suitable to ensure a secure and scalable future energy supply.
We are seeking a skilled and driven Metrology Scientist to join our team in Darmstadt (Hessia Germany) to help us shape the future of energy.
This person will lead the development and implementation of metrology strategies to ensure precise measurement of key parameters in fusion targets both in theoretical development and future production settings. They will collaborate across disciplines to define requirements guide instrumentation development and drive excellence in micro- and nano-scale measurement.
Your work will help drive accuracy consistency and scalability in fusion target metrology; laying a critical foundation for industrialized target production and impactful fusion energy research.
What youll do:
Define and lead metrology strategy and infrastructure development for fusion targets ensuring reliable and traceable measurements on the micro- and nanometer scale.
Work closely with interdisciplinary teams across Targetry to align measurement approaches with engineering and physics requirements. Translate theoretical needs into actionable measurement strategies.
Take responsibility for multiple metrology-related projects overseeing timelines deliverables and team coordination. Guide and mentor project contributors to successful outcomes.
Collaborate with engineers and scientists designing optical metrology tools ensuring systems are tailored to meet precision reproducibility and robustness standards for sub-micron resolution.
Develop and implement robust statistical methods for analyzing metrology data ensuring the validity accuracy and traceability of results.
Drive the transition of metrology methods from prototype development to scalable manufacturing ensuring repeatability and integration with quality assurance processes.
Analyze existing systems and methodologies for gaps and inefficiencies; propose and implement enhancements based on fundamental understanding and real-world constraints.
Who you are:
Expert with a minimum of 5 years of relevant industry or research experience in metrology ideally in high-precision or high-tech environments requiring micro- and nano-scale measurements.
PhD or equivalent expertise in Physics Physical Chemistry Engineering or a related field. Deep theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in metrology particularly optical and surface metrology.
Strong command of statistical data analysis including the design and validation of measurement processes uncertainty quantification and reporting.
Demonstrated ability to lead complex interdisciplinary projects. Comfortable owning end-to-end project responsibilities and guiding junior team members or peers.
Capable of navigating both high-level requirements and fine technical detail. Understands how metrology fits into a broader Research and manufacturing ecosystem.
Able to effectively communicate complex technical topics across disciplines influencing and aligning teams around shared goals.
