Job Description

Job Summary:

NMILC seeks an Accountant and Grants Manageran experienced and mission-driven accounting professionaldedicated to delivering critical support to our growing organization. This role provides a unique blend of financial stewardship grant administration and collaborative problem-solving. Youll ensure strong fiscal management of grant funds that directly advance immigrant justice in New Mexico.



Key Responsibilities

  • Grant Financial Accounting:
    • Manage all grant-related accounting: budget/expenditure analysis post-award functions invoicing reporting reconciliations and grant closeouts.
    • Develop grant budgets collaboratively with administrative/executive teams for new grants and renewals.
    • Monitor compliance on federal state municipal and private grants; prepare compliant financial reports.
    • Coordinate annual audits and grant monitoring visits.
    • Partner with program leads on budget projections and spending levels.
  • Month-End and Operations Support:
    • Assist in the monthly close process: prepare journal entries reconcile balance sheets resolve reconciling items and generate financial statements.
    • Support the Director of Finance in account analysis and financial statement preparation.
    • Serve as a resource for general accounting requests.
    • Backup for payroll processing and assist with payables/receivables as needed.

Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
    • Minimum 35 years accounting experience (nonprofit grant management/reporting preferred).
    • Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables formulas data analysis).
    • Proficient in QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
    • High attention to detail ability to meet deadlines and strong organizational skills.
    • Ability to give/receive feedback and manage confidential information professionally.
  • Preferred:
    • Strong writing skills for financial narratives/reports.
    • Nonprofit experience especially in grants administration.
    • Bilingual (Spanish-English) skills.

Salary and Benefits:

  • TheAccountant and Grants Managerat NMILC is afull-time exempt positionwith asalary of $76440 which is considered competitive for both the field and the region and may be adjusted based on experience.

Benefits may be subject to change at any time based on changes to the organizations budget.

  • Flexible work schedule and hybrid remote workoptions;
  • 15 paid vacation days (3 weeks)annually;

  • Company-paid federal holidays in addition to 2 weeks of winter break 1 week for spring break and 1 week for summer break and other days asestablishedin coordination with the localpublic schoolschedule.
