This is anUNPAIDinternship through the DoD Skillbridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. DoD Skillbridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership. HII Mission Technologies Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full-time regular and permanent job with HII.
Objective
The Skillbridge intern will train as a Project Manager within the HII Mission Technologies reporting to a designated Mission Technologies Program Manager with the primary goal of learning project and program management principles technologies and core operational functions. A secondary goal is to achieve a cross-organizational understanding of how industry works. The intern will be assigned special projects as needed.
Desired End State (3 months)
- At the end of three months the intern will be able to describe core functions of program management have a basic knowledge of software technologies government contracting procedures managing program operations to ensure production schedules are met system resources are utilized efficiently and effectively and proper relationships are established between customers.
- The intern will gain a functional understanding of schedule performance and risk identification / mitigation on initiatives including but not limited to systems tools equipment software facilities and other activities.
- The intern will be oriented to profit and loss of a large complex program
- The intern will be trained on all phases of programs from inception through completion.
- The intern will support a program contained at one primary geographic location however covering remote locations and multiple business functions and employees directly assigned to program
- The intern will be trained on processes to track cost schedule and technical performance of company programs.
Assumptions/Restrictions
- Skillbridge interns are not authorized to represent HII to DoD or Government customers while participating in the internship program.
Program of Instruction
Training Location: REMOTE (live/virtual) primary; Hampton VA (in-person) alternate
Training Plan
Phase 1 - Basics (Week 1-4)
- In processing Introductions/office familiarization
- Intro to Program Management Operations Annual Operating Plans and business development
- Intro to primary customer contact for program activities leading program review sessions with customer to discuss cost schedule and technical performance
- Intro to program milestones and monitoring adherence to master plans and schedules identify program problems and obtains solutions such as allocation of resources.
- Intro to work of employees including management level assigned to the program from technical manufacturing and administrative areas.
Phase 2 Project Management (Week 5-8)
- Review of HII Mission Technologies portfolio All Domain Operations Group.
- Coordinate resolutions to production-related problems.
- Managing required manpower support levels throughout the period of performance of the task order.
Phase 3 Federal Contracting (Week 9-12)
- HII Mission Technologies existing AAS contract vehicles available ceilings for additional revenue generation and how DoD customers use this pathway to pay for services and products.
Minimum Qualifications
Active-Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active-duty service. Applications accepted within final 12 months of active-duty US Military service. Education and Experience dependent on Program of Instruction.
- Transitioning US military service member with program/project experience and technical background
- Commitment to learning HII standards and skills in Program and Project Management
- Secret security clearance required; TS/SCI preferred
