Role Overview: Hearst Newspapers is seeking a passionate and dynamic Director of Sales to lead our sales teams at The Houston Chronicle both inside and outside the office. This pivotal role involves managing diverse sales channels premise sales and remote sales to meet and surpass our revenue goals. The ideal candidate will bring innovative strategies and a proactive approach to our advertising sales department ensuring both immediate wins and long-term growth. You will work closely with senior management at The Houston Chronicle to secure and nurture high-value customer relationships ensuring immediate wins and long-term growth.

What will you do

  • Drive Success with Innovative Tools: Utilize our AI-powered software to enhance every stage of the sales cycle from prospecting and planning to presenting and closing deals.
  • Recruit & Develop Sales Talent: Show your passion for sales by recruiting and developing top sales talent.
  • Team Management: Direct and enhance the performance of a robust sales team to drive exceptional results maintaining a positive team culture while motivating the team to achieve goals.
  • Strategy & Brainstorming: Create strategies and brainstorm ideas to exceed sales goals while prioritizing client needs.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Demonstrate proven leadership and mentoring experience.
  • Sales Management: Experience in a selling Sales Management role with a track record of exceeding revenue goals.
  • Proactive Thinking: Employ proactive strategic thinking with a strong sales mentality and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Trend Analysis: Utilize strong analytical skills to identify team trends and patterns to drive results.
  • Community Engagement: Act as a key community liaison and maintain strong relationships with key clients.
  • New Initiatives: Regularly evaluate and spearhead new advertising initiatives focusing on consumer needs and satisfaction.
  • Go-to-Market Strategies: Develop and implement effective go-to-market strategies for current and new products.

  • Education: BA/BS degree in Advertising Marketing or Communications a plus or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 8 years of business-to-business outside sales in advertising or media exceptional communication and negotiation skills capable of effectively managing a team and influencing sales growth.
  • Mindset: Highly motivated and able to thrive in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment. Strong interpersonal skills with a natural ability to build and maintain relationships and lead teams.
  • Skills: Superior presentation interpersonal and communication skills. Technically savvy with experience in Salesforce Excel and PowerPoint.
