HII Mission Technologies is seeking a Software Development Lead to support the Joint Training Synthetic Environment (JTSE) Joint Staff J7(JS J-7) contract at our Suffolk VA Joint Staff Complex. TheSoftware Development Lead will help build the below tools and capabilities. On this team you will be part of a fast-paced user-driven development team focused on creating solutions with a successful group that is rapidly position will have a hybrid work schedule and may require working onsite periodically in Suffolk VA at the Joint Staff Complex.
The Joint Staff is responsible for training military forces to respond to crises around the globe. From armed conflict to providing humanitarian support after natural disasters this force relies on joint training across all military branches Combatant Commands and the Components to be ready to respond at a moments notice. Globally integrated training technologies help prepare senior leaders to make decision in complex environments strategically integrate operations and resources globally and develop a force capable of competing and winning against any adversary or triumph in any disaster.
HII supports the Joint Staff in building the technical capabilities that this force relies on. We develop exercise planning data and simulation systems that mimic real life environments and weapons systems. These simulation environments are integrated with live tactical capabilities so warfighters can train using the exact same systems they use in the fight. Our current efforts unify these capabilities seamlessly with our modern web architecture and provide a model for ensuring long-term evolution to keep pace with the constantly evolving technical landscape. Essential Job Responsibilities
As a Software Development Lead you should be curious to learn new and complex technologies have a drive to contribute to new ideas for future development and be passionate about writing reliable efficient and maintainable code. You will be expected to build and improve large software by working with a Program Management Project Management and other Engineers by translating functional requirements into robust scalable and supportable solutions. You will participate in the full development lifecycle and actively troubleshoot issues in support of applications in production critical environments. You should be eager and willing to train new Associate Software Engineers and provide support to other Engineers on the team.
The Software Development Lead will also be expected to quickly learn and adapt to our development processes practices and environments. You will need to quickly dive into and glean an understanding of the system architecture and after time be able to assist other Engineers and System Architects in providing suggestions to the overall design and direction of our system architecture. Additionally you will be responsible for providing direction to your direct team provide career guidance on on-going performance and future growth opportunities and ensure program requirements are met for work assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 0 years experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years relevant experience.
- An active Secret security clearance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both in a team and individually.
- Solid organizational skills including attention to detail.
- Self-motivated and driven desire to succeed with minimal direction.
- Strong logical thinking skills and development fundamentals including object-oriented design data structure algorithm design and complexity analysis.
- Proficient in at least one modern programming language such as Java JavaScript Python or C.
- Knowledge of best practices for the full software development lifecycle including coding standards code reviews source control build processes testing and operations.
- A fast learner with the ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced team oriented environments.
Preferred Requirements
- A sound understanding of object-oriented design data structures and software design patterns
- Understanding of system architecture and experience with distributed systems
- Experience utilizing Agile methodologies and principles as well as Agile frameworks
- Experience with collaboration development tracking and version control systems such as
- Confluence Jira and Git
- Proficiency in Java and JavaScript
- Knowledge of web-based runtime environments such as NodeJS and web application frameworks such as AngularJS and ReactJS
- Knowledge of application abstraction and container fundamentals
- Experience with container runtime environments such as Docker and container-orchestration systems such as Kubernetes
- Design and development Relational and NoSQL/Graph databases
- Development in a Linux environment
