*Please note this is a part-time position. Approximately 20 hours per week.
This position creates a fire-safe environment; protecting the lives buildings and equipment at The University of Mississippi. The incumbent performs life and fire safety inspections on all University facilities. Incumbent is responsible for preparing and distributing inspection reports conducting fire drills and safety classes and facilitating training sessions for all volunteer firemen. Examines buildings to assess and detect fire hazards and ensure that federal state and local fire codes are being met.
These essential functions include but are not limited to the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.
1. Conducts inspections and enforcement procedures in accordance with the state and local fire codes.
2. Respond to complaints regarding fire code violations and fire hazards.
3. Supports arson investigations involving University owned property.
Education: High School or Equivalent
Experience:(4) Four Years Experience
Licensure: Must have a valid drivers license.
Substitution Statement: An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered for this role. Substitutions of the required experience or education will be assessed on a 1:1 substitution basis.
Certification: National Certification as an instructor level 1041-I & II. National firefighter certification levels 1001-I 1001-II. State of Mississippi Special State Inspector Certificate issued by the State Fire Marshalls office under the Mississippi Fire Prevention Code Sectionof Mississippi Code Ann. 1972. National Certification as a Fire Inspector 1031-I within the first two years of employment and 24 hours of continuing education annually.

Physical Exertion: The incumbent may be required to lift up to approximately 25 pounds.
Vision: Requirements of this job include close vision. Speaking/Hearing: Ability to give and receive information through speaking and listening.
Motor Coordination: While performing the duties of this job the incumbent is frequently required to talk and hear; and use hands to finger handle or feel. The incumbent is periodically required to sit. The incumbent is occasionally required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms
