Job Description

Summary Description:

The Principal of Dowell J. Howard will work collaboratively with internal and external staff to serve and support the success of middle and high school students in both alternative and Career & Technical Education programs. Additionally the Principal serves as the instructional and administrative leader for both program areas ensuring high-quality student-centered learning environments that support non-traditional pathways and workforce readiness. This role provides strategic oversight supervision and support to faculty staff and students in alternative education settings and CTE programs across the district and supervises professional and support personnel of the school.

Qualifications:

  • Three or more years of successful experience as an assistant principal preferably at the middle or high school level. Previous experience with alternative education programs and/or career and technical education strongly desired.
  • Postgraduate Professional Certificate with an endorsement in administration and supervision.
  • Masters Degree required.

  • Effectively establish relationships with all stakeholders (students staff families) through communication collaboration and empathy.
  • Promote adaptability and resilience in students and staff through strategic risk-taking.
  • Support and embrace innovative ideas that challenge conventional thinking.

Essential Duties:

Essential duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop and implement a shared vision for rigorous relevant and responsive instruction in both alternative education and CTE settings.
  • Leads a tiered system of supports to ensure each and every student has necessary social emotional and academic support for maximum success.
  • Collaborates with colleagues at FCPS middle and high schools (school leadership teams counselors teachers) to ensure an effective transition both to and from DJH.
  • Establishes and sustains a culture of continuous growth for staff and students.
  • Creates the conditions that promote autonomy and collaboration for both students and staff allowing for the personalization for individual growth and learning.
  • Communicates and collaborates with families to ensure appropriate supports for the families and students of Dowell J. Howard School.
  • Coordinates with community agencies in the support of families and students.
  • Coordinate with secondary schools local businesses and postsecondary institutions to expand CTE opportunities.
  • Provides an evaluation process and feedback to staff that promotes professional growth.
  • Recruits selects and supports staff who are committed to the success of the students of Dowell J. Howard School.
  • Use data to assess program effectiveness identify areas for growth and implement improvement plans.
  • Works collaboratively with transportation in the coordination of student bussing.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of schedules for students and staff and modifies as necessary to ensure student support.
  • Advocates for the needs of the students staff and programs of Dowell J. Howard.
  • Understands and supports the policies of the division and ensures proper business and financial records.
  • Other duties may be assigned through the immediate supervisor.

Pay Rate:

The salary range is $106703-$175709

Contract:
Full time / 12 months / 245 days

Start Date:

This position is effective with the 2025-2026 school year.
