About the role

AEMOs System Design division is responsible for planning the power system in the context of unprecedented transformation. The rapid transition to renewable energy generation and electrification of many sectors (transport industry etc) has seen sharp rises in proposed transmission connection projects. The Onboarding and Connections Group manages AEMOs end to end process for connecting and registering generators into the National Electricity Market.

With more than 160 GW of new generation to connect in the next 30 years as Senior Engineer youll play a key role in enabling integration of a diverse range of technologies including onshore wind offshore wind hydro and solar generation battery storage systems and hydrogen plants.

This role is available across all states with AEMO providing a crucial service and fostering flexible work arrangements. Strong team frameworks a vibrant culture and well-stablished communication tools help maintain close connections throughout the organisation.

What you will be doing

  • Develop and apply a strong understanding of power system behaviour and limitations to ensure new generating plants are effectively assessed and integrated in line with operational needs and compliance requirements.
  • Serve as a technical lead for assigned projects ensuring the delivery of high-quality assessments that comply with the NEM operational protocols and connection standards.
  • Contribute to project deliverables particularly modelling studies and technical assessments ensuring quality and consistency through evidence-based analysis and sound engineering judgement.
  • Participate in engineering knowledge sharing within the team and support junior engineers by sharing expertise and technical guidance when needed.
  • Support collaborative working relationships with external and internal stakeholders including NSPs developers OEMs and AEMO teams acting as a key technical contact within project scopes.

What you will bring to the role

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or other discipline relevant to power systems analysis.
  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline with demonstrated expertise in power systems analysis and hands on experience using PSCAD and PSSE.
  • Well-developed experience in managing generator connection processes with strong experience in assessing and resolving generator and power system performance issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting and developing technical expertise in teams via a structured and transparent approach.
  • Experience in negotiating the resolution of complex technical issues across stakeholders with competing objectives and a variety of commercial and reputational drivers.
