About this Position

The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Oklahoma State University (OSU) invites applications for a full-time career-track position in surgical fundamentals and community engagement. We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic veterinarian with a solid foundation in small animal general surgery and a strong interest in clinical teaching. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage directly with veterinary students while contributing to community animal welfare through spay/neuter services and potential outreach initiatives.

In this position the successful candidate will instruct third-year veterinary students in Junior Surgery and supervise fourth-year students in the Surgical Fundamentals rotation which focuses on spay/neuter procedures. This role is part of a collaborative teaching team of five faculty members dedicated to training students in general small animal surgery techniques.

Your primary responsibility will be the clinical instruction of veterinary students in surgical skills with a focus on spay/neuter procedures performed on adoptable shelter animals. You will teach third-year students in the Junior Surgery course and fourth-year students in the Surgical Fundamentals rotation providing hands-on practical experience in small animal surgery. If desired you may also participate in didactic teaching contributing to coursework in shelter medicine and surgical principles.

Beyond the classroom this position may involve engagement with the OSU CVM Rural Outreach Initiative. This program emphasizes community service through mobile veterinary care giving you the opportunity to extend your impact beyond campus and improve animal health and welfare in rural Oklahoma.

As a valued member of the CVM faculty you will help shape the clinical education environment to ensure that students graduate with strong surgical competencies and a commitment to community service.

This is a full-time career track faculty position with an excellent benefits package 4 weeks of vacation and funding support for continuing education travel. Professional growth is encouraged and supported by the Office of Curriculum and Educational Support which offers resources to help you expand your teaching and clinical skills ( must have a DVM or comparable veterinary degree and be licensed (or eligible for licensure) to practice veterinary medicine in addition a minimum of 1 year experience in shelter medicine and surgery or general small animal surgery is required. Candidates that have completed a rotating small animal or specialty shelter medicine internship are encouraged to apply.

The OSU CVM is in Stillwater OK which is nestled in north-central Oklahoma approximately 60 miles from Tulsa and Oklahoma City.
