Description

About the role

The Climate Justice Senior Lead role leads and supports collaborative initiatives thatadvance climate justice place-based resilience and systems change. Drawing on strong expertise in the social dimensions of climate change the position works across policy practice and partnerships to drive equitable and just climate responses. With a focus on enabling the community sector and other cross-sectoral stakeholders to understand and act on local climate risks the role combines strategic leadership and expertise to shape and resource innovative justice-centred approaches to climate resilience. The Climate Justice Senior Lead role requires a values-aligned team-oriented professional with experience navigating complexity delivering multi-stakeholder projects and communicating with influence across diverse settings.

About the Centre for Just Places

The Centre for Just Places was established by Jesuit Social Services to enable and support place-based approaches. Through our research advocacy and practice the Centre unlocks the relationship between social environmental and economic justice.

We aim to enable strong and resilient communities through three main areas of work:

  • Working in place our practice in Victoria New South Wales and NorthernTerritory we deliver a range of place-based initiatives to support communitydevelopment build capacity and provide flexible responses to community needs.
  • Enabling climate justice we partner with community service organisations communities and governments to shift systems build local climate resilience and adaptive capacity.
  • Supporting strong healthy and equitable communities building on more than25 years of research into locational disadvantage with Dropping off the Edge wework with communities to know where people are struggling to understand what is contributing to that struggle and how we can collectively enable communities to flourish.

About the Climate Justice team

The Climate Justice Team sits within the Centre for Just Places and works with community service and health organisations communities academic institutions philanthropy and government to build local climate resilience and adaptive capacity through research action and advocacy. Our climate justice approach brings attention to the root causes of intersecting inequities and the actions required to shift them.



Skills And Experiences

About you

This role will suit a candidate with the following skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in climate change environmental studies community development public policy or a related discipline and/or extensive demonstratedexperience in climate justice place-based climate adaptation and resilience and systems change.
  • Proven experience in leading multi-stakeholder projects and partnerships focusedon climate resilience and adaptation climate justice and/or sustainability (experience working in the west of Melbourne is highly regarded).
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage competing priorities deliver outcomes withintimelines and budgets and navigate uncertainty and complexity.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the social dimensions of climate change particularly as they relate to justice equity and community resilience. Ability to integrate climate science policy and community knowledge to inform place-based responses.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to or leading policy development andadvocacy strategies related to climate change social justice or communitywellbeing including strong understanding of the policy landscape at local state national and international levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders with a particular focus on supporting the community sector to understand and respond to the impacts of climate change.
  • Highly developed interpersonal written and verbal communication skills includingexperience facilitating participatory processes managing teams and presenting complex information to diverse audiences in compelling and accessible ways.
  • Understanding and sympathy with the mission and ethos of Jesuit Social Services.
