POSITION SUMMARY:

The System Navigator for the Hummingbird program aids and supports individuals who have experienced sexual violence and/or intimate partner violence as well as their families and loved ones by: providing/supporting them with internal and external referral processes resources and advocacy and participation in individual case counselling and coordination as appropriate. The System Navigator works as a member of an interdisciplinary team identifying key partnership contacts to effectively and efficiently support people and practice innovative approaches to service delivery within the broad determinants of health framework. Resources supports and programming are person-centred and person led. The System Navigator within the Hummingbird program will support participate and connect individuals to community based cultural programming and healing opportunities. Collaborating with community partners the System Navigator will build relationships with partners in community to extend the circle of care available to people in their healing processes. The Systems Navigator will facilitate and support the Ogijiita Advisory Council within the Hummingbird team.

This position is meant for individuals who identify as First Nations Metis and/or Inuit.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate degree in the social sciences graduate degree preferred
  • Minimum two years supervised in person counselling experience
  • Lived experience as a First Nations Metis or Inuit health professional
  • Thorough knowledge of sexual violence domestic violence and intimate partner violence theories frameworks and dynamics
  • Demonstrated familiarity with a broad range of social services agencies and resources
  • Thorough understanding of the therapeutic/counselling process
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of crisis intervention and suicide prevention
  • Thorough knowledge of posttraumatic stress the recovery process and experience counselling people affected by trauma
  • Thorough understanding of issues related to addictions
  • Thorough understanding of mental health issues and the mental health system
  • Demonstrated competence in risk and clinical assessment
  • Proven ability to work from an empowerment and trauma informed model
  • Established relationships and connections with First Nations Inuit and/or Metis communities
  • Previous work experience in First Nations Inuit and/or Metis communities
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrated decision making abilities
  • Proven ability to promote team and program functioning
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings
  • Awareness of and sensitive to issues of cultural diversity

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Link clients with appropriate community resources
  • Provide clinical assessments
  • Liaise with community resources and service organizations
  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Participate in program development
  • Assist in the development of resource material including facilitating training and public education events
  • Maintain awareness of community led initiatives programming and cultural supports available for clients and their families and facilitate the connection to same
  • Co-facilitate the Ogijiita Advisory Council
  • Participate in program planning evaluation and quality monitoring including completing daily statistics
  • Chart appropriately according to Klinic Policies
  • Participate in training courses and in services offered elsewhere and by Klinic in order to maintain and improve quality of service
  • Attend staff meetings as required
  • Participate in formal self-evaluations by identifying strengths and limitations
  • Seek appropriate supervision/consultation of own actions
  • Adhere to all agency policies protocols and promote best practice
  • Perform other duties and functions related to their job description not exceeding the above stated.

Additional Requirements:

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Child Abuse and Adult Abuse Registry checks

SALARY RANGE $40.536 per hour - $52.900 per hour
