Reporting to the Manager with professional accountability to the Professional Practice Leader & Coordinator the Child Life Worker is responsible for the planning delivery and evaluation of play/activity programming for patients and their families. The Child Life Worker uses theories of growth and development family systems play and cultural diversity to provide a therapeutic and safe environment for individuals and groups from birth to adolescents. The Child Life Worker facilitates play peer interaction socialization and assists in attaining goals for individual children and families through play/activity programming. The incumbent functions as a member of the Child Life team takes a leadership role for the Child Life Play Program; provides developmentally appropriate play programming for individuals and groups; screens trains and oversees play program volunteers; supervises learners; incorporates child life goals into play programming; maintains the play spaces and requests supplies and equipment as needed; organizes child/family participation in special visitors/events; participates in Child Life profession activities and completes administrative tasks as required (e.g. workload measurement).
Monday to Friday; 7.5 hour shifts Weekends
Baccalaureate Degree relating to Child Life Child and Youth Studies Child Development or related field required.
Minimum one (1) year experience working with children and families required preferably in a Child Life program.
Current successful completion of CPR Level-C Healthcare Provider within the last 12 months required.
Preference will be given to candidates with work student or volunteer experience working in a Child Life program.
Communicates Child Life theory concerning benefits of play to others.
Demonstrates understanding of the impact of healthcare experience on children and families.
Demonstrates effective communication skills both oral and written.
Must be flexible to work various shifts and week-ends as required.
Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred.
