Job Description

Job Title: Academic Success Liaison - This is a Non-Continuing position

Reports to: Building Principal for Open Doors Program (ESD 189 program housed at Totem
Middle School)
Work Schedule:180 days - 4.0 hours per day

Salary: Salary Schedule Non-Represented 8 Goal:
This position will provide positive collaborative leadership with the building principal and other
staff for the continuous improvement of student learning. The Liaison shall be responsible for:

  • Student data analysis
  • Student progress monitoring
  • A portion of School Leadership and
  • Assist and Support the Principal.

The Liaison will provide support for identification enrollment and support of students who
participate in the Open Doors educational program. The Liaison will coordinate services to
support the students and families in the educational process for academic success. This position is responsible for building and maintaining relationships creating connections and attending
required trainings and events.


Essential Job Functions:

Depending upon individual assignment the employee may perform all or a combination of
several of the following duties:

  • Provide outreach and assess needs to prospective families and at-risk youth to
  • explain program requirements and benefits while providing meaningful positive
  • and sustainable interventions
  • Coordinate with the Transportation Department and other districts to arrange
  • transportation
  • Coordinate with Food and Nutrition Services to arrange free meals for homeless
  • and foster students
  • Collaborate with Tulalip Tribes and MSD Native Liaisons in connection to supporting
  • Native students and their families
  • Collaborate with BedaChelh for foster support to students foster families and
  • their case workers
  • Collaborate with Treehouse to connect and refer secondary foster youth to their
  • Graduation Success Program and partner with their educational advocates
  • Conduct attendance and academic monitoring
  • Collaborate with counselors in identifying at-risk students as defined by poor
  • academic progress chronic absenteeism and other related criteria to provide
  • proper interventions
  • Develop systems and maintain records for data collection as required by OSPI
  • Attend required trainings and conferences facilitated by OSPI and Snohomish
  • County
  • Provide support to promote family and community engagement by removing
  • barriers for participation
  • Re-evaluate current families for qualifications into the next school year during the
  • summer
  • Assist with providing support documentation during audits
  • Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regular work hours

  • Professionally interact with students staff and public
  • Comply with all district policies and procedures
  • Perform related duties as assigned

  • Assist teachers to assess and monitor students for the purpose of providing feedback to
  • students parents and administration regarding student progress expectations and
  • goals by using quality classroom-based assessments
  • Collaborate with school personnel parents and various community agencies for the
  • purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes developing solutions and planning
  • curriculum and willingness to work with grade level team
  • Direct volunteers and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school
  • program and addressing the needs of individual students and be supportive of parent
  • volunteers in the classroom. Utilize district adopted curriculum to guide instruction
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly
  • productive environment for learning
  • Communicate regularly and positively with parents
  • Assist in coordination and supervision of student activities
  • Assist in student discipline and supervision
  • Assist in management of materials and equipment
  • Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regular work hours
  • Professionally interact with students staff and public
  • Establish and maintain professional contacts with students
  • Comply with all district policies and procedures
  • Comply with the Code of Professional Conduct
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee
encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is confined to a
work area; required to have precise control of fingers and hand movements; experiences
constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines; and must be able to stoop crouch crawl bend
kneel stand for periods of time and lift in order to assist a student with personal care. The
employee is required to deal with distraught and/or angry persons and is exposed to infectious
diseases carried by children. The noise level in the work environment is acceptable to this
particular environment and can vary depending upon daily activity but will remain within
acceptable ranges.


Evaluation
This position shall be evaluated periodically by the ESD I89 Building Principal/Supervisor
pursuant to the currently established district procedures and evaluation criteria. The process
shall include an evaluation of the employees performance of the above essential job functions.
