Job Overview:We are seeking a skilled
Locomotive Electrician to join our team in
Mayfield Kentucky responsible for the efficient inspection troubleshooting preventive maintenance and installation of locomotive mechanical and electrical systems. This role involves working with diesel engines motors generators air brakes and various mechanical and electrical components to ensure compliance with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) company and customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities:- Conduct inspections and ensure compliance with FRA Association of American Railroads (AAR) and American Public Transportation Association (APTA) standards.
- Perform troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on locomotive mechanical and electrical systems to ensure proper operation within design limits.
- Complete detailed inspection and repair reports in accordance with company and FRA guidelines.
- Diagnose install and repair locomotive components including pumps radiators compressors and electrical systems.
- Utilize precision instruments and specialized tooling to test and verify the operation of locomotive components.
- Read and interpret diesel engine manuals locomotive schematics and maintenance instructions accurately.
- Analyze and correct faults related to inspection troubleshooting and maintenance of locomotive equipment.
- Assist in additional repairs and maintenance as directed by supervision.
- Properly utilize tools and equipment including torque wrenches cutting torches and forklifts ensuring safety and accuracy.
Advanced Responsibilities:- Test all locomotive components based on FRA standards to ensure proper functionality.
- Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and computers for troubleshooting.
- Train and mentor junior electricians and technicians.
Qualifications:- Skill Level III: 0-2 years of experience as an electrician (locomotive preferred) or equivalent training in diesel automotive or aircraft mechanics.
- Skill Level II: 2-5 years of experience as a locomotive electrician; technical certifications may substitute for experience.
- Skill Level I: 5 years of experience as a locomotive electrician.
Preferred Skills:- Certified Electrician with knowledge of locomotive and aircraft systems.
- Familiarity with locomotive diesel engine components and systems.
Physical Requirements:- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in confined spaces.
- Position requires standing walking squatting kneeling and climbing throughout the day.
- Exposure to high noise levels and vibration; proper PPE is required.
- Work environment may include extreme temperatures and exposure to weather elements.
Safety Requirements:- Must work cooperatively as part of a team to meet production requirements.
- This position is safety-sensitive requiring strict adherence to safety policies and procedures including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
