The Alcohol Gaming Fuel and Tobacco (AGFT) Division of Service Nova Scotia is the regulatory bodycharged with administering Part II of the Gaming Control Act parts of the Liquor Control Act and the Theatres and Amusements Act. The AGFT issues approximately 13000 licenses annually and provides counter service to approximately 3100 annually. Service standards dictate that licenses and registrations be processed within 10 business days.
Under general supervision of the Senior Licensing Officers) and Managers) Licensing and/or Registration the Licensing Officer (LO) determines the eligibility of various applications and is responsible for the processing of ticket lottery non-permanent liquor permanent liquor bingo and amusement applications. The LO ensures compliance with the Gaming Control Act Liquor Control Act Theatres and Amusements Act Smoke Free Places Act and subsequent regulations guidelines and policies including the Criminal Code of Canada.
AGFTD issues approximately 13000 licenses annually
AGFTD provides in counter service to approximately 3100 annually.
Service standards dictate that licenses and registrations be processed within service standards of 10 business days.
The LO contributes to revenues of approximately $300k per fiscal year.
As the successful candidate you must have 5 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.
The incumbent requires a high level of communication skills (both verbal and written) diplomacy resourcefulness organizational skills and the ability to work with minimum supervision. This position also requires the ability to analyze and interpret legislation extract and apply licensing requirements assist with licensing applications and apply legislative provisions to various business operators. It is important that the incumbent maintain a consistent professional attitude. A high degree of judgement and accuracy is necessary to ensure completeness of applications and assessing accompanying documentation against regulations polices and or procedures. The incumbent is responsible to obtain and maintain a level Ill security clearance for the duration of their employ. Experience working with AMANDA would be considered an asset.
To be successful in this position the incumbent will regularly need to read and interpret legislation and operational procedures comprehend and disseminate sensitive information regarding licensing and registration applications. Specifically the LO is responsible to liaise with applicants/licensees on a regular basis regarding the application process.
This position involves a high volume of work and meeting event addition the collection and maintenance of sensitive information is required. LO will adhere to frequent deadlines and multi-tasking. LO may need to notify applicants their application has been denied. There may be times when the LO will be dealing with contentious and sensitive issues. There may on occasion be a need to present findings at an appeal hearing.

A significant amount of time may be spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunities to move about. Occasionally lifts/moves light objects suchasoffice supplies equipment and boxes of files.
This is a permanent full-time position based in Dartmouth Nova Scotia.
Pay Grade: TE 16- TE 18
Salary Range: $1735.60- $2189.32Bi-Weekly
