The role

The position will be based in Genoa Italy as part of the Europe Legal team reporting to the Head of Commercial Contracts Europe (based in Liverpool UK). You will play a key role in supporting Maersks ambition to be the Global Integrator of Container Logistics by reviewing drafting and negotiating commercial and vendor contracts for our logistics and shipping business. As a reliable legal business partner you will facilitate business growth with a customer-centric mindset while protecting the companys values interests and reputation.

You will work closely with legal colleagues across Europeparticularly in Copenhagen the UK & Ireland and The Haguethe contract governance team in India and stakeholders in Sales Procurement and various support functions. A high degree of independence and proactiveness is expected as well as the ability to take a pragmatic approach to problem solving risk management and the application of company-specific risk tolerances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advice and support on reviewing drafting and negotiating contracts with customers suppliers business partners and governmental authorities.
  • Acting as a business partner in facilitating the commercial teams assessment of risks and rewards from a legal perspective whilst safeguarding Maersks values interests and reputation.
  • Maintaining a strong understanding of the Maersk contract templates and policies in relation to risk.
  • Responsible for engaging and managing of external legal counsel including legal budget.
  • Proactively identify and address legal issues in a pragmatic and risk-based manner.
  • Provide training to (non-legal) colleagues on relevant legal topics.
  • Working effectively with other departments and functions such as Procurement Sales Finance Tax Compliance etc.

Who we are looking for

  • Higher degree in Law.
  • Fluency in English is a must. Fluency in Frenchand Italian should be considered a plus.
  • Minimum 4 5 years of relevant legal experience in private practice at a reputable law firm with international clients and/or in a multinational company with experience in international logistics.
  • Deep competence in contract law with demonstrable skill and capabilities in drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
  • Able to work independently yet collaborate effectively with functional project teams.
  • Have a broad understanding of the commercial playing field and different industry actors.
  • Able to hold a position yet partnering with the business to find solutions to complex issues.
  • Healthily balances a detail-orientated approach with a result-oriented mindset.
  • Strong people skills business savvy.
  • Commercial mind-set drive to deliver high quality results effectively and efficiently high level of integrity.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills able to explain complex legal issues to non-legal persons empathy personal tact.
  • Flexible to adapt to changing priorities fast-paced and fluid environments willing to travel.
