Adjustment Counselor 0.6 FTE Farley Elementary

SUMMARY:

Farley Elementary School is seeking a Long term Sub -0.6 FTE adjustment counselor for August 26th January 2026. We are seeking for this candidate to work 3 full school days at Farley Elementary Schools. The district can be flexible on days and schedule need be.

The School Adjustment Counselor investigates processes of learning and teaching and develops psychological principles and techniques applicable to educational problems to foster intellectual social and emotional development of individuals. Analyzes characteristics and adjustment needs of students and recommends educational program to promote maximum adjustment.

School Adjustment Counselor Responsibilities:

  1. Acts as liaison between family and school.
  2. Delivers other counseling activities and programs to support the school community.
  3. Provide strategies for academic and personal/social success; identify and assist students experiencing academic and personal/social difficulties; either individually or in small groups as determined appropriate by the multi-disciplinary team.
  4. Provides services by facilitating small groups and counseling individuals with specific needs
  5. Conducts structured goal-oriented counseling sessions to meet the identified short-term need of individuals and groups of students.
  6. Delivers prevention intervention and crisis management services for students.
  7. Consults and collaborate with teachers staff and parents/guardians in understanding and meeting the developmental needs of students.
  8. Participates in consultations with administrators teachers parents and others to enhance their work with students.
  9. Conducts or provide opportunities for parent education programs.
  10. Recommends corrective and supportive procedures to teachers parents or others.
  11. Assist families in addressing school-related problems and issues.
  12. Assists in locating emergency services for students and families in psychological crisis.
  13. Refers students with critical needs in consultation with their parents/guardians to appropriate community resources
  14. Consults and coordinate with in-district professionals such as school psychologists nurses and administrators; and community-based resources such as outside counselors service agencies and physicians.
  15. Cooperates and collaborate with other professionals in enhancing the education of students
  16. Uses program evaluation tools analyze data and modify the program components as needed to improve student success
  17. May provide short term diagnostically oriented interventions with students and/or families.
  18. Performs any other duties etc. as assigned by the Director of Student Services or the Building Principal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Massachusetts certification as a Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor
  2. Massachusetts DESE license preferred
  3. Ability to read analyze and interpret professional periodicals and journals technical procedures and governmental regulations
  4. Ability to use reasoning ability to evaluate information and determine/recommend an appropriate course of action.
  5. Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  6. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in the educational field
  7. Ability to use professional literature evidence-based research and continuing education content to make practice decisions.
  8. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form
  9. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups including staff parents and the general public
  10. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with district level administrators principals staff and community members
  11. Ability to work independently prioritize tasks and manage several projects simultaneously
  12. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and DESE policies
  13. Understand confidentiality requirements regarding student records
  14. Ability/willingness to plan coordinate conduct and participate in ongoing professional and staff development
  15. Ability to operate a computer and related software including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite
  16. Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI) and fingerprints

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Experience working in an educational setting as a School Adjustment Counselor.
  2. Experience delivering services under the MA Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs (ASCA model) preferred;

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to move about and may be required to traverse occasionally throughout the school building. The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee is expected to lift at least 20 lbs. within the daily classroom routines. The employee must be able to successfully use classroom equipment and the classroom the employee must be able to monitor closely for the purpose of safety and instruction. The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise.

Terms of Employment:

- 0.6 FTE - Roughly 20 hours/week. 3 days/week

- temporary employment

- Eligible for Benefits & Insurance after 90 days.

Pay Scale:

- Unlicesended Long Term Subs $23.46/hour

- Licensed Long Term Subs $ 42.64/hour - $60.73/hour.

Licensed Long Term Subs will be placed accordingly within this range dependent upon years of experience and degrees.

While performing duties of this job the employee may often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee will have also have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands and frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e. calculator copy machine and computer printer).Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling stooping/crouching reaching/handling talking/hearing conversations and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students staff members and the public in person and on the telephone.
