Job Description

The Supervisor of Instructional Technology is responsible for advancing the effective use of technology in teaching and learning across Roanoke City Public Schools. This role involves overseeing various aspects of educational technology collaborating with multiple departments and ensuring the successful implementation of digital tools and resources.

Key Responsibilities

Supervision and Evaluation of Instructional Technology Resource Teachers (ITRTs)

  • Provide leadership and guidance to ITRTs ensuring their professional growth and adherence to best practices.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of ITRTs performance including classroom support professional development and technology integration.
  • Foster a collaborative environment among ITRTs to share expertise and enhance instructional practices.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of the Instructional Technology program.

Supervision and Support

  • Oversees Division-Wide technology programs
    • Division Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Acts as a liaison with program vendors

Curriculum Development

  • Facilitates the integration of technology tools and resources into the existing instructional curriculum.
  • Disseminates information about current research and significant developments in technology education at the state and national levels.
  • Assists in writing curriculum for summer enrichment program.

Professional Learning and Training:

  • Design and deliver technology-related professional development for teachers.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends in educational technology.
  • Assists with professional learning events and projects.

Budget and Inventory

  • Administers the instructional technology budget ensuring cost-effectiveness and prudent fund management.
  • Compiles budget and cost estimates.
  • Coordinates the selection of technology equipment and software.
  • Monitors and approves instructional technology equipment and software purchases.

Qualifications

Education: Masters degree in educational technology curriculum and instruction or equivalent

Certification: Valid teaching license and educational leadership license.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in educational technology leadership.
  • Experience with LMS administration professional development and instructional technology.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in educational technology tools and platforms.

Reporting Structure

The Supervisor of Instructional Technology reports directly to the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and School Improvement.

Recertification Requirement

The Supervisor of Instructional Technology must stay current with VSTE and ISTE standards attending relevant conferences and maintaining professional memberships.
