Who are we looking for

Were seeking the curious those who are stimulated by fresh thinking and a desire to shape our communities in new positive ways. Our Ontario Environmental business is looking for anEnvironmental Scientist or Environmental Engineer who can conduct research or perform investigation for the purpose of identifying abating or eliminating sources of pollutants or hazards that affect either the environment or the health of the population. Using knowledge of various scientific disciplines may collect synthesize study report and recommend action based on data derived from measurements or observations of air food soil water and other sources. This role will join our team in Waterloo.

Responsibilities

  • Data Collection and Analysis: Independently collect organize and analyze environmental and technical data using prescribed tools and procedures. Field data collection activities may include soil sampling groundwater sampling vapor monitoring and other site investigation methods in support of environmental assessments and remediation.
  • Personal Capability Building: Engage in continuous professional development through formal training mentorship and certification programs (e.g. maintaining up-to-date knowledge of environmental regulations and emerging remediation technologies). Proactively seek learning opportunities to enhance performance and project contributions.
  • Health Safety and Environment: Adhere strictly to organizational HSE policies and field protocols. Identify and report potential safety hazards in the field and escalate issues when necessary. Promote a culture of safety and compliance while conducting or supervising fieldwork such as drilling excavation and well installations.
  • Client & Customer Management (External): Maintain professional communication with clients regulators and external stakeholders. Coordinate project logistics with contractors permitting agencies and public entities. Support senior staff in managing key client relationships and project delivery.
  • Sampling and Testing: Conduct a range of environmental sampling procedures including soil groundwater and vapor sampling. Perform and support laboratory and field-testing programs in compliance with regulatory standards best practices and project-specific requirements.
  • Project Management: Support the coordination and execution of small- to medium-scale environmental projects including scheduling fieldwork managing budgets preparing invoices and ensuring deliverables are met on time. Work within established project management frameworks to meet technical and financial objectives.
  • Environmental Impact Assessment: Assist in the execution of Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) Excess Soil Planning Documents and related environmental due diligence reporting. Ensure technical documentation reflects thorough and accurate environmental impact evaluations.
  • Solutions Analysis: Interpret data and identify possible answers. Involves navigating a wide variety of processes procedures and precedents.
  • Insights and Reporting: Assist in the preparation of environmental reports technical memoranda and drawings for internal review and client submission. Ensure documentation is complete technically sound and aligned with regulatory and industry standards.
  • Bid Solicitation/Request for Proposal/Tender Preparation: Contribute to the preparation of technical proposals cost estimates and bid submissions. Assist with gathering project details and supporting documentation required for RFPs RFQs and tender responses.
  • Community of Practice Management: Participate actively in a community of practice in a defined area of expertise or consulting to build own expertise.
  • Environmental Risk Management: Support the identification assessment and documentation of environmental risks related to contaminated sites site remediation and redevelopment. Work with senior staff to implement mitigation strategies aligned with applicable regulations and client expectations..

Education: Bachelors degree (or higher) in Biology Chemistry Environmental Science Environmental Engineering or related field

Experience

  • General Experience: 3 - 5 years of professional environmental experience (i.e. air quality environmental compliance water/wastewater etc.)
  • Experience preparing project related technical documents including environmental reports (Phase I/II ESAs Phase One/Two ESAs Excess Soil Planning Documents etc.) technical specifications and drawings for review.
  • Professional Geoscientist (.) or Professional Engineer (.) designation in Ontario is an asset
  • Familiarity with local provincial and federal environmental regulations and permitting requirements
  • Excellent English writing and verbal communication skills to effectively express technical information to multiple audiences including subcontractors field staff clients colleagues etc.
  • Eager to work with multi-discipline engineering teams (i.e. geotechnical civil structural etc.).
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize projects and tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness and ability for travel for meetings site visits and to conduct field work as required.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Word Excel & Adobe
