Support the Districts Environmental Flows and Levels Section by performing professional-level technical and administrative work using an understanding of physical science in areas such as engineering hydrology and/or geology to assess and evaluate water management and water supply have the chance to work with a wide range of teams in this promising position each of which plays a vital role in our efforts to preserve our most valuable natural resources. Starting Compensation:

Scientific Modeler 1: $54496.00 - $74143.79
Scientific Modeler 2: $57678.40 - $79494.10
Scientific Modeler 3: $62316.80 - $85879.29
Scientific Modeler 4: $67288.00 - $92727.00

Thestarting salary ranges are included for the Scientific Modeler profile which reflects the minimum to approximately 50% of the respective pay grades. The starting salary will be based on the education and experience of the successful candidate. The District conducts annual performance evaluations that may award applicable pay increases based on positive employee performance.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and manages water resource projects to support development of management strategies and regulations including minimum flows and levels to protect and recover lakes wetlands springs freshwater river segments estuarine river segments and aquifers.
  • Is familiar with the Districts hydrogeology and conceptual understanding of aquifers and confining units.
  • Develops scientific methods to support minimum flows and levels establishment and assessments and other water resource projects and assists other District staff with water use permitting and planning or oversees consultants selected to perform these efforts.
  • Conceptualizes and constructs numerical groundwater and integrated surface water/groundwater models; compiles analyzes and evaluates required data; calibrates models and conducts sensitivity analysis; modifies runs and post-processes predictive simulations for MFL assessment water supply planning and assistance to District regulatory staff.
  • Summarizes and interprets hydrologic and geologic data develops related recommendations and performs statistical analysis of hydrologic data.
  • Ability to analyze model output; lead and respond to peer reviews and make recommendations regarding alternatives evaluated to solve complex water management issues.
  • Performs field-reconnaissance surveys in support of modeling efforts technical methods development and application and other water resource projects.
  • Writes technical reports and project/study summaries and participates in meetings and provides oral presentations of project/study findings to District peers management and Governing Board as well as external stakeholders including the general public permittees and other regulated individuals and organizations local state and federal agencies and others.
  • Project management duties to include contract management and budget development and tracking.

Required Credentials for Scientific Modeler

Scientific Modeler 1

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Engineering Geology or related field
  • Valid drivers license

Scientific Modeler 2

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Engineering Geology or related field
  • Two (2) years related work experience
  • Valid drivers license

Scientific Modeler 3

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Engineering Geology or related field
  • Four (4) years related work experience
  • Valid Florida Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license
  • Valid drivers license

Scientific Modeler 4

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Engineering Geology or related field
  • Five (5) years related work experience
  • Valid Florida Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license
  • Valid drivers license

    Preferred Credentials for Scientific Modeler

    • Masters degree in Engineering or Geology or related field
    • Training and/or direct experience in surface water/groundwater modeling
    • Experience with GIS Software

    Additional Details

    This position is typically scheduled to work 40 hours per week Monday to Friday out of the Brooksville FL office however remote work may is available up to 4 days per week after training. This position is eligible for compensatory time for hours worked over 40 hours in a week.

    Travel Required

    travel using District vehicle within Districts coverage area.
