Job Description

The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the Citys evolving criminal justice system participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the city towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees visitors volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.

The Department of Correction seeks to hire four (4) Central Operations Desk (COD) Specialists who under the direction of the Executive Director and COD leadership team with wide latitude for the exercise of independent action and decision-making will support the agencys 24/7 operational communications system and unit. The chosen candidates will have demonstrated experience supporting communications such as emergency coordination incident documentation operations tracking and data entry of the agencys robust incident reporting system. The selected candidates responsibilities may include but will not be limited to the following:

- Support CODs 24/7 incident command center;

- Monitors multiple sources of critical information for situational awareness

of incidents called into COD both onsite and offsite;

- Ensure high-quality and timely responses to all inquiries regarding all activities;

- Input and send incident alerts and reports and ensure accuracy of COD incident alerts and reports;

- Coordinate non-incident special alerts as directed;

- Coordinate information sharing with internal stakeholders to monitor and update the status of incident response;

- Communicate with external inter-agency partners such as the NYPD and agencies as needed;

- Ensure that communication about incidents within jails outposts department locations/operations and

transportation operations is properly processed;

- Confirm the scope and nature of incidents ensure that agency notifications are performed analyze information

from multiple sources and prepare reports for dissemination to Executive Staff;

- Interface with the Departments Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Office of Preparedness and Resilience

Communications Unit Special Operations Division and Department Facilities on initiatives projects operations

and exercises;

- Support records access retention and management needs and work with quality assurance/administrative support

personnel;

- Support communications in the field for off-site incidents;

- Represent COD at meetings as designated; Participates in drills and training exercises

- Analyze oversight regulations and standards and recommend appropriate agency response;

- Support COD supervisors in identifying trends in incident alert/correspondence to find root causes of recurring

problems and implement solutions;

- Perform related duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills:

- Ability to work day or afternoon tours including weekends and holidays;

- Experience and proficiency with data entry and running reports;

- Familiarity with emergency management law enforcement including correction;

- At least two years of experience in a law enforcement field and/or agency with an

incident reporting system such

as emergency management;

- Experience in city state and federal government a plus;

- Excellent writing editing communication inter-personal time-management and

organizational skills;

- Ability to retain confidential information;

- Ability to work quickly under pressure and strict deadlines while still ensuring a

high-quality work product;

- Possess commitment to a collaborative work ethic;

- Ability to engage and build relationships with a range of stakeholders and external partners.

Qualifications :

1. A masters degree from an accredited college in economics finance accounting business or public administration public health human resources management management science operations research organizational behavior industrial psychology statistics personnel administration labor relations psychology sociology human resources development political science urban studies or a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and one year of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one or a combination of the following: working with the budget of a large public or private concern in budget administration accounting economic or financial administration or fiscal or economic research; in management or methods analysis operations research organizational research or program evaluation; in personnel or public administration recruitment position classification personnel relations labor relations employee benefits staff development employment program planning/administration labor market research economic planning social services program planning/evaluation or fiscal management or in a related area; or

2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in the areas described in 1 above.

associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college and five years of satisfactory full-time professional experience as described in 1 above.

4. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a States department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and seven years of satisfactory full-time professional experience as described in 1 above.

5.A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to 1 2 3 or 4 above. College education may be substituted for professional experience at the rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience. However all candidates must have a high school diploma and at least one year of experience as described in 1 above.
