Job Description

Class Summary




The Department of Child Advocacy and Juvenile Services provides zealous legal representation for children in order to advocate for their legal rights and best interests; volunteer oversight for children in foster care by collaborating with multi disciplinary stakeholders; and supervision for youthful offenders utilizing the least restrictive interventions that do not compromise public safety. The office dedicates itself to achieving excellence in quality representation and effective advocacy.

Job Description
This position will be responsible for supervising children adjudicated delinquent providing referrals to programming to reduce recidivism and providing case management for youth on probation and Children in Need Services (CHINS). Probation Officers will also make recommendations to court.

Essential Duties

  • Oversees and reviews a caseload of juveniles on probation.
  • Maintains details case files documenting progress violations and interventions.
  • Prepares and presents case updates as needed.
  • Researches rehabilitative programs and recommends resources.
  • Completes referrals to community resources.
  • Meets with clients and families and assists with programs.
  • Conducts office home and school visits.
  • Closely monitors youth to ensure conditions of probation are met.
  • Provides supervised drug screens to clients and enforce accountability measures.
  • Testifies and makes recommendations to court.
  • Various other duties/responsibilities as deemed necessary

Grade
The grade for this position is B25(1).

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Social Work Criminal Justice Psychology Sociology or a related field(s) and
  • One (1) year of experience as a Probation Officer Police Officer Social Worker or working in the juvenile justice system or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) or more years experience as a Probation Officer Police Officer Social Worker or work in the juvenile justice system
Other Job Requirements/Information
  • Valid drivers license from state of residency
  • This job requires a background check to include motor vehicle histories criminal histories and fingerprinting.
