CHILD AND YOUTH COUNSELLOR

ABOUT THE UPPER GRAND DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD (UGDSB)

The UGDSB employs a team of approximately 4000 dedicated staff who serve more than 35000 students attending a variety of programs across 65 elementary and 11 secondary schools as well as continuing education and adult learning centres in the counties of Dufferin Wellington and the City of Guelph. The UGDSB covers the ancestral and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit the Six Nations of the Grand River and Saugeen Ojibway Nation.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team for this temporary full -time opportunity in the capacity of Child and Youth Counsellor . This is a 10-month position (yearly from Sept. June following the school year calendar) to commence September 2 2025 with an anticipated end date of November 7 2025.

Location s : 0.8 FTE Jean Little Public School 0.2 FTE Fred A. Hamilton Public School

*school location/geographical area cannot be guaranteed in perpetuity. School location/geographical area are subject to change based on student and system needs.

Hours/FTE : 1.0 FTE (35 hours per week)

Salary Range: $57801- $78770 (based on a 1.0 FTE full-time annual salary wage rate effective September 1 2025) plus applicable vacation pay in accordance with the Employment Standards Act

Board Information: 10 months; temporary; Professional Student Services Personnel

Responsibilities

  • To address the emotional barriers to student success
  • Development of preventive social/behavioural programming
  • Direct service to students relative to social emotional or behavioural issues
(i.e. conflict resolution anger management appropriate learning behaviours peer interaction)
  • Provide support to students and parents around a variety of social issues including effective parenting dealing with divorce and dealing with bereavement
  • Acts as a liaison between school and parents school and community agencies
  • Assist with development of action plans and IEPS for students around social emotional and behavioural issues
Experience and Qualifications
  • Child and Youth Worker Diploma or Degree and/or a combination of formal education (fields related to the development of children and/or special education) and work experience deemed equivalent by the Board
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students with behaviour and mental health needs
  • Experience working in the school system consultation experience and knowledge of collaborative proactive solutions and Zones of Regulation
  • Full membership as a Professional certified in the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care
  • Experience with individual and group counselling behavioural management programming
