Job Description

Role impact:

Accountable for key accounting processes in the Shared Services Accounting group. Performs critical accounting processes with a focus on the reporting of financial and operating results for Properties including analysis recording and documentation of complex accounting transactions preparation of property and asset class reports and contributing expertise and knowledge to financial plans and outlook.

What you will deliver:

  • Prepares/reviews property monthly PTR reports on financial and operating results in accordance with required templates and timelines while ensuring the accuracy of the reported information.
  • Trains and manages accountants on company accounting policies and procedures reviewing their work and provides feedback to achieve efficiencies and effectiveness of accounting procedures.
  • Coordinates and prioritizes tasks through communication with accounting team setting deadlines and making decisions to enable the team to meet their goals and objectives and to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Prepares financial and operational information to FA&A team auditors co-ownersand other stakeholders
  • Develops and implements new policies and procedures by reviewing management agreements outlining options and alternatives to facilitate decision making and to improve efficiency and accuracy of procedures.
  • Manages the activities of direct and indirect reports to ensure the timely achievement of department and individual objectives;
  • Provides regular motivation and mentoring to staff for on-going professional development; and
  • Oversees develops and provides training for Accountants on implementation of changes to policies and procedures.
  • Review of journal entries for accounting activities and transactions to ensure in accordance with accounting policies and internal control requirements;
  • Assist in the annual external audit of financial statements for various entities;
  • Monitoring of intercompany balances and working with head office teams to resolve any issues;
  • Ensures documentation to support transactions and activities is in accordance with company policies and requirements;
  • Ensures that key controls over financial reporting are operating effectively for their portfolio and property financial teams; and
  • Input for design of consolidated reports as required;
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you need to succeed:

  • University degree in Finance Business Commerce or Accounting combined with CPA accreditation
  • Minimum 3 years in a managerial role
  • At least 5 years experience working in the real estate industry and fully literate with real estate accounting policies and procedures
  • 7 years experience in accounting and financial reporting environment including preparation of financial statements in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Knowledge of accounting policy and procedures (GAAP/IFRS) leases and legal documentation
  • Strong computer skills with a high level of competency in Excel Word Google suite and Yardi (CF Voyager)
