Hospitality Manager

Job Summary

Nestled in a walkable neighborhood Channing House is a leading not-for-profit Life Plan Community in Palo founded in 1960. Our team of 190 staff members from Front-Line to Leadership drive the mission of Channing House providing essential services to our 265 highly engaged residents who call Channing House their home. The Hospitality Manager supports organization management and coordination of the daily functions within the kitchen and dining rooms as well as the team members who carry out these functions. Together with the entire team at Channing House your role contributes to promoting a healthy and vibrant home for our residents.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to the following:

  • Consistently treat residents guests and staff members with dignity professionalism and respect.
  • Inspire motivate and support team members to perform at their best every day through coaching training and daily engagement.
  • Plan assign and direct work; develop and maintain dining room team schedules to ensure appropriate coverage.
  • Interview hire and train employees; conduct performance appraisals provide recognition address performance concerns and manage terminations when necessary.
  • Develop maintain and ensure staff participation in robust training programs including monthly safety service and emergency preparedness trainings.
  • Promote exceptional customer service and hospitality ensuring an excellent dining experience for all residents at every meal in all venues and promptly addressing concerns or complaints.
  • Support employees in daily operational tasks and ensure a safe clean and appealing work environment; promptly report and address unsafe conditions or equipment issues.
  • Collaborate effectively with other departments the Resident Food and Dining Committee and Lee Center Resident Councils to support cross-functional initiatives and resident satisfaction.
  • Monitor and improve dining systems and processes identifying and implementing solutions for operational inefficiencies.
  • Guarantee uninterrupted meal service (three meals a day seven days a week) including contingency planning for emergencies such as pandemics power outages or equipment failures.
  • Regularly review the emergency operations plan and ensure adequate supplies and preparedness for likely emergencies.
  • Oversee the accuracy and timely distribution of the tabletop and Week at a Glance menus and maintain the ResWeb platform.
  • Manage and maintain the FullCount POS system to ensure proper functionality and efficiency.
  • Participate in monthly inventory assist with food orders as needed and provide monthly dining charges to the Accounting department.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health safety and regulatory agencies including Santa Clara County Department of Health CDPH CDSS CalOSHA etc.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications are:

  • 3-5 years of culinary and dining management experience.
  • 5-7 years of food service experience.
  • Knowledge of basic operation of equipment and senior living experience is a plus.
  • Ability to use a computer.
  • High School diploma GED or equivalent experience.
  • AA BA or BS degree. Specialty in Business Hospitality or Culinary preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience welcomed.
  • Bilingual: English and Spanish required.
  • ServSafe certification required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a California Food Handlers Card before starting employment.
