GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking a Wildlife Policy & Legislative Affairs Manager to engage with state and federal legislators stakeholders and agency staff on wildlife-related legislative matters. This position plays a vital role in reviewing analyzing legislation impacting Wyomings fish and wildlife resources. The manager also develops critical materials and testimony to support the Departments mission and enhance understanding among decision-makers. This role works as part of the Directors Office agency leadership and external partners to coordinate timely responses to emerging legislative issues and advance conservation priorities.

  • Engage with Wyoming state legislators and stakeholders to review analyze and recommend edits on proposed or existing legislation affecting fish and wildlife.
  • Prepare briefing tools and informational materials to support the Directors Office and legislative outreach.
  • Coordinate with agency staff at all levels to ensure thorough analysis and alignment on legislative initiatives.
  • Make time-critical decisions related to legislative inquiries scheduling meetings and coordinating Department responses.
  • Make high-level policy recommendations to the Directors Office for approval.
  • Manage competing priorities and maintain effective communication between the Directors Office legislators and agency units.
  • Remain vigilant for proposed rule changes and interpret draft bill language to assess impacts on Department policies and wildlife resources.
  • Coordinate agency actions and administrative responses to emerging legislation staying informed on evolving state and federal priorities.
  • Engage with federal congressional staff on Wyoming wildlife needs draft or review federal legislation and coordinate with other state wildlife agency leadership.
  • Work as part of the Directors Office to review prepare and deliver testimony during the state legislative session; represent the Department on select legislative bills.
  • Complete special assignments as assigned by the Director including serving on state committees developing reports and representing the Directors Office at meetings.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES:


Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelors degree in Wildlife or Natural Resource Management or Wildlife Management and Conservation. Additional preference may be given to applicants with direct experience in state or federal legislative processes and wildlife management.
