Job Description

50% - Program Coordination and Enrollment Services
  • Coordinate the Haskell/KU Exchange Program including assisting students with enrolling in courses at KU and Haskell.
  • Coordinate course listings with the KU Registrars office and the Indigenous Studies Program.
  • Orient Haskell/KU Exchange students to the program and to KU in collaboration with the Orientation and Transitions Program team.
  • Assist in orienting KU students to Haskell Indian Nations University as appropriate.
  • Serve as KU Primary Contact for the Haskell/KU Exchange Program as specified in the MOA and program liaison with Haskell Indian Nations University.
  • Collaborate with Haskell and KU campus partners to support and refer students as necessary.
  • Develop academic success plans with students that include development of personal and academic goals in partnership with the students assigned advisor at KU or Haskell. This includes 1:1 meetings with students regularly to assure progression and use of resources.
  • Connect students directly to critical student services including study strategies time management and organization critical thinking test preparation note taking skills self-monitoring skills and other academic supports.
  • Develop a recruitment strategy with identified stakeholders with Haskell and attend relevant recruitment events or college fairs as appropriate.
  • Document and maintain all communication with students resulting from appointments email phone and walk-ins using university-approved systems.
  • Design and conduct program assessments analyze results and work with supervisor to suggest modifications to the Haskell/KU Exchange Program based on results.
20% - Cross Campus Communication and Support
  • Develop and coordinate a communication and outreach plan that includes marketing recruitment and communication for programs available to students between Haskell and KU.
  • Support the coordinated connections between grant-funded programs that serve students from Haskell to KU.
  • Audit the services to students that are specified in KUs formal grant and partnership agreements.
  • Assist Haskell students during the transfer process and connect students to campus partners as necessary.
  • Coordinate existing scholarships available to students transferring from Haskell to KU and other related scholarships for this student population at KU. This includes promoting and processing awards through UKASH using KU approved compliance measures and systems.
  • Work with the Office of Sovereign Partnerships and Indigenous Initiatives around the growing needs of students and trends in best practices.
  • Assist students applying for the Haskell Residency and the Indigenous Residency through the University Registrar.
20% - Hawk Link Student Support and Engagement
  • Provide personalized student service support to KU Students through Hawk Link during peak student service periods.
  • Meet with students for academic and personal success guidance/consultation and resource referral.
  • Serve as a student concierge for each students KU Student Success Team members including students assigned academic advisors financial aid advisors and faculty members.
  • Collaborate with the Hawk Link Success Team to develop a student program plan that supports the student learning outcomes for Academic Success in highly relevant ways for Hawk Link students.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of Jayhawk JumpStart Hawk Week and additional Hawk Link programming.
10% - Other Duties as assigned by Academic Success Leadership
  • Contribute to the Haskell/KU Advisory Committee as needed.
  • Attend relevant staff meetings and trainings related to Academic Success Initiatives.
  • Use University-approved systems for all student records and adhere to Academic Success technology use standards and FERPA guidelines.
  • May supervise student staff.
  • Serve on departmental and campus committees as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by Academic Success Leadership.

  1. Degree in education counseling psychology special education social work liberal arts Indigenous studies or related field.
  2. Experience working with stakeholders from different work areas as evidenced in application materials.
  3. Academic Coaching Certification in higher education administration student personnel or related field (CRLA/ATP/NCLA) as included on application materials.
  4. Previous experience that required excellent oral communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
  5. Experience using of Microsoft Office products as evidenced in application materials.
  6. Experience with web-based student retention software such as EAB Campus/Navigate as evidenced in application materials.
  7. Experience with recruitment CRM systems such as Slate as evidenced in application materials.


Position Overview
This position will coordinate the Haskell/KU Exchange Program and provide personalized student service support to students through the Haskell/KU pathway and in Hawk Link. The Coordinator provides relevant academic and enrollment support services to both institutions and its students including academic program information financial guidance and enrollment support while orientating students relevant to their Haskell to- KU cross-course enrollment and transition.

The Coordinator will assure continuity of service to students moving to and from Haskell Indian Nations University. The Coordinator will work with the Office of Sovereign Partnerships and Indigenous Initiatives to identify and assess the student support needs required through KUs partnership with Haskell. This role is responsible for maintaining the list of student support services that are required or mentioned in each of KUs grant or academic partnerships with Haskell or identified sovereign entities. This position will work with KU Financial Aid & Scholarships to support students around tribal grants and scholarships; with the KU Office of the Registrar to support the enrollment of students in the Haskell/KU Exchange Program and those applying for the Haskell Residency and the Indigenous Residency status; and with JAA to assure seamless program academic advising. This position ultimately aids students navigation of campus and helps them identify campus resources and opportunities with other professional staff within Hawk Link and reports to the Director of Hawk Link and Access Initiatives.

The Hawk Link team includes Hawk Link Coordinators Hawk Link Student Specialists and the Hawk Link Program Manager and delivers student-facing services and programs including the Mentored Scholars Program (MSP) Jayhawk JumpStart and the Haskell/KU Exchange Program.

This is a one-year limited term position.

Unit Overview:
Hawk Link and Academic Success Navigators are teams within Academic Success at KU along with Academic Success Operations and Technology the Military-Affiliated Student Center and Leavenworth Student and Academic Services. Academic Success is a division of Academic Affairs at KU and advocates for and strategically advances education at the University of Kansas by working with students from orientation to graduation.
