Title: Graduate Research Assistant (0000GA11 Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology)

Location: University of Hawaii at Manoa

Full Time/Part Time: Part Time - Full Time Equivalency: 50% (20 hours / week)

Temporary/Permanent: Temporary - Not to Exceed: September 29 2026

Salary Information: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Other Conditions:

Pending position clearance and availability of funds

Position renewable upon availability of funds program needs and satisfactory performance

Position to begin mid-to-late August or as soon thereafter as possible


Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator with guidance from the Hawaii State Maternal Health Task Force the GRA will:

  1. Conduct data harmonization & analyses related to the Hawaii Maternal Health Innovations program
  2. Provide technical assistance to funded MHI projects
  3. As necessary collect new data or seek out additional data sources
  4. Assist in manuscript grant proposal and other technical writing
  5. Prepare public presentations community report-back and other engagement activities
  6. Present at academic conferences
  7. Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Be classified as a degree-seeking student in a Masters or PhD program under UHM Graduate Division
  2. Be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above
  3. Maintain 6 credits per semester with the exception of those who have reached 800 (dissertation) or 700F (thesis)
  4. Knowledge of public health and epidemiology
  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office especially Excel Word and PowerPoint and statistical programming software such as R Stata or SAS
  6. Experience with quantitative health data including Electronic Health Record (EHR) data


Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Skills in quantitative analyses including epidemiology and biostatistics as evidenced by coursework and/or experience
  2. Knowledge and interests in maternal and child health epidemiology
  3. Strong oral and written communication skills
  4. Detail oriented organized dependable and self-motivated
  5. Experience with data presentations and data visualizations
