Job Description
Position Title: Sustaining Engineer
Department: Engineering
Location: Santa Ana CA
FLSA Status: Exempt Full- Time
Job Summary:
The Sustaining Engineer supports the ongoing production and lifecycle management of electronic products with a focus on continuous improvement quality resolution and cost optimization. This role works cross-functionally with manufacturing quality supply chain and design teams to troubleshoot production issues implement engineering changes and ensure product integrity throughout its lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support for manufacturing of electronic assemblies including PCBAs cable harnesses and electromechanical systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues non-conformances and test failures by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) including updates to BOMs schematics assembly drawings and work instructions.
- Support component lifecycle management including alternate sourcing obsolescence handling and part qualifications.
- Collaborate with Quality and Manufacturing teams to implement process improvements reduce defects and improve yields.
- Analyze customer returns and field failures; drive root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
- Maintain product documentation in compliance with IPC standards and ISO quality requirements.
- Participate in cost reduction and value engineering initiatives without compromising form fit or function.
- Serve as a technical liaison between production engineering and supply chain to ensure consistent product performance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Electronics Engineering Technology or related discipline.
- 2 years of experience in sustaining or manufacturing engineering within an electronics manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in both office and production floor environments.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Visual acuity and manual dexterity to inspect components and operate diagnostic tools or lab equipment.
