Title: Librarian II (Archivist)

Position Number:T

Hiring Unit: UHM Library Services

Location: Manoa Hamilton Library University Archives and Manuscript Collections

Closing Date: Continuous - application review begins August 4 2025

Salary Information: B2M11; Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. (Librarian II minimum $74891)

Monthly Type: 11 Month

Tenure Track: Non-Tenure

Full Time/Part Time: Full Time (100% FTE)

Temporary/Permanent: Temporary

Other Conditions: To begin approximately August 2025 pending position clearance and/or availability of funding. Renewable depending on performance and/or funding availability.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Leads the processing and reprocessing (arrangement description and preservation activities) of selected collections through the lens of a Hawaiian Knowledge Organization System to be codified during the grant period.

2. Coordinates arrangement and description of both the physical and born-digital portions of the selected collections including data entry into the Librarys ArchivesSpace instance.

3. Coordinates the digitization of selected physical files including quality control and metadata creation.

4. Coordinates promotion of the finished collection including a post for the Archives blog and grant report.

5. Co-trains and supervises graduate assistants and other students assistants.

6. Serves as a project liaison with Hamilton Librarys University Archives and Manuscripts Collections on the implementation of the HKOS within its indices and collections.


Minimum Qualifications

1. Masters Degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program or an equivalent graduate library science/information studies degree by the date of hire.

2. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment with multicultural groups and individuals with diverse academic abilities cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds including library staff administrators students faculty and community.

3. Familiarity with current U.S. metadata content and structure standards relevant to archival control notably DACS and Dublin Core.

4. At least one year of experience processing archival records and/or manuscript collections and/or hands-on coursework in archival arrangement and description.

5. Demonstrated knowledge of Native Hawaiian language history politics cultural practices and contemporary issues.

6. Ability and desire to interact with students and faculty using excellent interpersonalcustomer service and facilitation skills.

7. Ability to train and supervise temporary part-time student or volunteer assistants.

8. Ability to set priorities manage work and meet deadlines independently and collaboratively.

9. Strong organizational analytical and communication skills.

10. Keen attention to detail and ability to synthesize information.


Desired Qualifications

1. Ability to initiate and design projects and bring them to a conclusion in a timely fashion.

2. Familiarity with issues and best practices with inclusive and reparative description Indigenous knowledge organization and/or data sovereignty.

3. Proficiency in ArchivesSpace or other similar collection management system for archival materials.

4. Experience in instruction and instructional writing.
