WHAT YOULL BE DOING
Operates a variety of equipment and performs road maintenance related tasks and provides technical and operational leadership to maintenance crew staff involved in operational activities; ensures appropriate level of compliance with Occupational Health and Safety procedures including the preparation and documentation of traffic control plans and setting up a work zone as per Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 and WHMIS.
Utilizing the CMMS maintains daily work records of performance of work crews based on effective and efficient operation and production performance of assigned tasks.
Provides appropriate technical and operational leadership and direction to the work crews on use of the proper effective efficient and safe use of Regional equipment.
Utilizes CMMS technology to generate work orders; inputs data; monitors and maintains up-to-date preventative maintenance system data and information.
Tags assets using CMMS and GIS within work orders for regular maintenance activities.
Keeps abreast of new/emerging technologies and maintenance concepts/practices as it relates to Branch business needs.
Inspects and reports on asset conditions as well as contracted services to ensure compliance with specifications and provides appropriate reports and records on work accomplishment.
Ensures that all safety equipment required is available at the job site and is in proper working order.
Provides guidance training mentoring and coordinates assigns schedules and checks the work of assigned staff.
Provides orientation for new staff on the proper use of tools and equipment; provides refresher training as requested.
Investigates and reports on issues relating to public complaints and corridor control activities including permits encroachments utilities mud tracking etc. and acts as first point of contact to resolve issues.
Communicates with residents to address their inquiries while performing duties on site.
Acts as a District Supervisor Roads Maintenance in their absence.
Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with Branch and Departmental objectives.
WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR
Successful completion of a Secondary School Diploma or equivalent approved combination of education and experience.
Minimum three (3) years demonstrated experience in road maintenance related activities.
Demonstrated experience in the field of specialized heavy-duty equipment and other equipment associated with road maintenance operations such as dump trucks loaders tractors chainsaws and grass cutting equipment.
Valid Ontario Class DZ drivers licence free of serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
Knowledge of relevant legislation regulations guidelines and standards including the Highway Traffic Act Occupational Health and Safety Act and Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
As a condition of employment candidates are required to complete a medical assessment that measures their functional abilities and confirms their immunization status. This is in accordance with the requirement laid out under clause 25(2)(h) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act)
Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including communication innovation teamwork and collaboration and personal ownership.
Leadership skills and ability to provide guidance training and mentoring ensure a safe working environment and to coordinate assign schedule provide clear written and verbal instructions and check the work of assigned staff.
Knowledge of Regional road maintenance operational quality and quantity standards related to workplace activities.
Ability to work rotating shifts.
Availability and ability to perform standby duties as required in accordance with Branch policy and to respond to emergency situations.
Ability to perform heavy manual labourer work in potentially adverse weather conditions.
Ability to work outside regular business hours as required.
