Job Description

Description of Work

The Administrative Officer IIposition will assist the Chief of Emergency Preparedness in the preparation of various reports correspondence and administrative memorandums. Position will screen all incoming mail and exercise judgment in determining who to direct matters/correspondence to be most effectively handled. This position receives information review it and prioritize it for the Chief.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting Chief of Emergency Preparedness in all phases of operational duties of the fiscal section in an effective manner
  • Establishing and managing the office administrative and operational workflow to assist the efficiency and productivity
  • Assisting in coordinating and monitoring assigned tasks projects and ongoing activities to ensure assignments are completed and reports are filed
  • Work with DAC Central HR to process HR documentation to coordinate interviews prepare and oversee interview sheets and documentation complete and oversee personnel actions coordinate paperwork for new hires track time sheets monitor budgets and spending and investigate discrepancies in employee reports
  • Works with the Controllers Office to include the Accounting and Purchasing offices
  • Communicating with internal/ external stake holders at all platforms
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned


This position is pending reclassification for Administrative Officer II.

This is an Internal Posting open ONLY for current North Carolina State Government employees and eligible RIF Candidates from NC State Government. To include eligible current Temporary Employees.

This position is eligible for aflexible/hybrid telework schedule under the State of NC Telework Program.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) withState Benefits.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Effective July 1 2025 candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. The knowledge skills and abilities listed in the vacancy announcement should be used as management preferences and be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.

Management Preferences:
  • Working knowledge of preparing budget documents and reports
  • Experience with E-procurement OPUS and DAC Web Applications
  • Demonstrated experience providing office administrative/clerical support
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelors degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in personnel budgeting research or administrative management (OR) an equivalent combination of education and experience.
