The Engineering Manager vacancy within Water and Sanitation Projectsunder direction of the Senior Engineering Manager - WSmanages complex capital projects and programs including the supervision of staff supporting this work for the four (4) water and seven (7) sewer systems under WS. This includes managing professional services and contractors for all phases of a projects development and execution. These projects involve a variety of water recycled water and sanitary sewer system improvements including but not limited to design and construction of pipelines reservoirs booster and pump stations wells and treatment systems; and assists with planning and asset management requirements for each of the systems and conceptual preliminary designs cost estimates project reports and funding applications for federal state and local grants.
The Engineering Managervacancy withinWatershed Protection - Design & Constructionunder direction of the Deputy Director - D&C is responsible for supervising directing and coordinating the work of project delivery team members both within and outside the Agency in the design and construction of Agency projects including emergency permit capital flood threat mitigation environmental mitigation maintenance and storm water quality improvement projects; and acts as the resident engineer on those projects.
The Senior Engineering Manager vacancy within Engineering Services Land Development Services Division under direction of the Director ES manages a major section of the Department and is responsible for the planning organizing directing and coordinating of varied activities within the division. This includes overseeing and implementing the grading and floodplain permitting programs illegal grading complaint program geotechnical report reviews water availability letter reviews and discretionary reviews related to grading geohazard hydrology and floodplain development; and interacts with a wide array of stakeholders including homeowners contractors consultants elected public officials and other County Agencies and Departments.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
TheEngineering Manager differs from the Engineer IV (or equivalent) as Engineer IV does not supervise a major section and is not assigned as a specialty engineer or project manager on major projects. The Engineering Manager differs from the Senior Engineering Manager in that the Senior Engineering Manager is more accountable for a significant part of departmental operations and may supervise a broader range of management professional technical maintenance and/or clerical staff.
The Senior Engineering Managerdiffers from the Deputy Director-Public Works in that the latter classification is responsible for a larger budget and greater number of professional and managing engineers. Engineering Managers are generally responsible for the direction of technical program activities of an independent work unit or specialized area and do not generally exercise the decision-making accountability characteristics of a Senior Engineering Manager.
PAYROLL TITLES AND APPROXIMATE SALARIES
Engineering Manager: $4941.48 - $6918.75/biweekly ($128478.42 - $179887.41/annually)
Senior Engineering Manager: $5473.42 - $7663.54/biweekly ($142308.88 - $199251.95/annually)
Engineering Manager and Senior Engineering Manager are Management classifications and are not eligible for overtime compensation. Incumbents in this classification are eligible for benefits at the MB3 level.

EDUCATION TRAINING and EXPERIENCE
Engineering Manager:Considerable experience related to the specific program assignment which has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge skills and abilities. The required knowledge skills and abilities are typically obtained by completion of a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering AND a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible professional civil engineering experience including at least one (1) year of experience as a team leader of engineering and technical staff or at least one (1) year of public works project management experience.
Senior Engineering Manager:Progressively responsible experience related to the specific program assignment which has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge skills and abilities. The required knowledge skills and abilities are typically obtained by completion of a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering and two (2) years managing an engineering or surveying section at a level equivalent to an Engineering Manager.
