JOB DESCRIPTION
The paraeducator in this position will be primarily working in the Career Center. The duties will involve performing tasks to support the Career Center program and support of the Career and College Readiness department and Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs. A main function of this job is working with staff and students to implement and track the High School and Beyond Plan. Other job-related duties will be assigned.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelors degree in related field.
- Mustattach unofficial transcriptproving bachelors degree to application. Official transcripts of all levels of education including high school required within 30 days of hire.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
- Must pass a basic skills test.
- Must pass a background check which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
- Completion of Safe Schools web based training within 30 days of employment and yearly thereafter.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
- Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
- Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required as well as attend any training as directed by management.
- Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
- Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful cooperative and effective relationship with students parents staff fellow employees and management.
- Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner working toward the common goal of teamwork pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
- Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students parents district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
- Must be able to skillfully use computer programs to maintain records enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
- Must be willing to become first-aid certified if required.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize a variety of software applications.
- Demonstrated ability to use MS Office; Word Excel and PowerPoint (an assessment will be given).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; working knowledge of correct grammar spelling and English usage.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and develop relationships with students teachers administrators parents and community.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED
- Bilingual English/Spanish oral skills.
- Experience assisting high school students with career exploration and test interpretations.
- Able and willingness to promote and support career and technical education programs.
- Able to work cooperatively with high school counselors in the implementation of the High School and Beyond Plan and support of the current curriculum for career/college planning for every high school student.
- Experience and/or training with the SchooLinks HSBP program Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint; and Power School.
- Successful experience working with secondary school students.
- Demonstrated presentation skills for both large and small groups; to include students staff and the community.
- Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic.
- Excellent attendance punctuality and dependability; evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide students with information and resources on programs available at the secondary level for educational and career planning including the SchooLinks online platform.
- Administer student interest and aptitude assessments; assist students with career exploration and research.
- Support career and technical education staff and programs; provide assistance to promote CTE programs with students and parents.
- Support instructional programs providing career education and related resources for classroom use.
- Participate in career and technical education staff meetings; quarterly career center meetings.
- Schedule visits maintain and disseminate information on post-secondary education and career training opportunities (testing college application processes scholarships financial aid etc.).
- Provide support for the coordination of High School and Beyond plan activities; Required tracking of senior completion data.
- Develop and schedule career center and career education activities i.e. speakers job shadow activities mock interviews field trip support college and military presentations etc.
- Develop and maintain job shadow/internship records; assist students to participate in job shadow and internship activities.
- Assist in identifying and scheduling guest speakers for classroom presentations.
- Maintain excellent communications with staff students parents and the community.
- Operate and maintain computers in the career center.
- Maintain student and parent confidentiality.
- Develop community partnerships that enhance curricular programs; provide program information through community presentations.
- Provide large group presentations for students and parents.
- Work with CTE counselor to develop and maintain the career center/CTE counseling budget.
- Order and maintain resources for the career center.
- Maintain and update brochures in the career center area.
- Utilize word processing; maintain records; perform filing tasks; type correspondence.
- Utilize Power School student information software.
- Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures including regular attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

- Lifting:The employee must be able to lift or move up to 18-26 pounds; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.
