Harvard-Westlake School is looking for part-time Middle School VEX Assistant Robotics Coaches. Robotics at Harvard-Westlake is a year-round program that enables students to explore STEM through real-world challenges and applications. The program is student-focused allowing students to work with coaches who support hands-on learning. The team participates in the VEX V5 Robotics Competition where they collaborate to design build and program a functional robot.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Robotics Program Head to support student engagement experiences in robotics.
Facilitate a collaborative and inclusive student experience that supports the HW mission statement and the core values of Robotics Education and Competition Foundation.
Work with other coaches to evaluate incoming students and generate a roster of competitors.
Supervise weekly after-school practices (Monday through Friday 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm).
Drive students to Regional VEX competitions in the schools SUVs and supervise teams at the events.
Occasional out-of-town travel to Signature Events or VEX Robotics World Championships.
Facilitate logistics alongside the Robotics Program Head for various robotics events and community outreach initiatives.
Maintain a clean robotics lab and enforce safety protocols to ensure a safe environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree or relevant work experience
Valid drivers license and clean driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with shop tools including CNC router band saws drill presses 3D printers laser cutters and belt sanders.
Expertise in building programming and/or designing VEX robots.
Experience working with middle school students in robotics or a related STEM field

Schedule:
Part-time in-person position scheduled to work approximately 10-15 hours per week including supervision of afternoon/evening practices and weekend tournaments. This position will begin in August for the 2025-26 school year with the possibility to renew in subsequent school years.
Compensation: This is a non-exempt position. Base compensation for this role is $35.00 per hour.
