Job Summary:
The Athletic Trainer will be responsible for preventing diagnosing treating and rehabilitating athletic
injuries among student-athletes. Serving as needed in an hourly capacity this role involves working
closely with coaches school nurses physicians and parents to ensure the health and safety of all
athletes. The Athletic Trainer assumes responsibility for the care and inventory of sports equipment.
Essential Job Functions:
Renders first aid including artificial respiration as necessary to student athletes.
o Cleans and bandages minor wounds.
o Applies heat and cold to promote healing.
o Massages parts of athletes bodies to relieve soreness strains and bruises.
o Wraps ankles fingers or wrists in protective gauze and adhesive tape to support
muscles and ligaments.
Coordinates the annual required athletic physicals and supervises the clearance of injured
athletes prior to and during the sport seasons.
Advocates and communicates treatment/rehabilitation for all athletic injuries.
Maintains an inventory of supplies including first aid and equipment.
Informs the athletic director when new supplies or equipment are needed.
Assists in the selection and fitting of protective equipment including special taping pads or
braces; modifies protective equipment to best suit the needs of the sport or player; repairs torn
or damaged equipment or sends out for repair.
Packs and unpacks supplies/equipment for road trips; accompanies teams on trips.
Ensures a safe playing environment by monitoring the playing area (field track etc.)
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Ability to assess student health concerns develop treatment plans and provide basic medical
care.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey information clearly and concisely to
students parents and staff.
Skilled in maintaining accurate and confidential student health records.
Ability to work effectively with teachers administrators parents and healthcare providers to
ensure student well-being.
Skilled in handling a variety of health situations and identifying appropriate resources.
Ability to interact with students parents and staff in a courteous and professional manner.
Skilled in providing health education to students on topics like hygiene nutrition and healthy
choices.
Ability to make sound judgments in time-sensitive situations.
Skilled in prioritizing tasks managing a heavy workload and working efficiently in a fast-paced
environment.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of student health information.
Ability to adjust to changing priorities and respond effectively to unexpected situations.
Education and Experience:
Required
Bachelors Degree in Sports Medicine Kinesiology or related field
Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) certification
Current (valid not expired) CPR/Basic First Aid certification
Current (valid not expired) State Drivers License
Ability to possess additional licensure as required by the State or School Board
