Opportunity

Be part of shaping the future of inline quality inspection for battery manufacturing as a part of the EU-funded consortium STELLAR that will develop safe sustainable and high-throughput production of li-metal anodes. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact with a broad range of partners with deep experience across the battery value chain from materials science and simulation to production and testing. Supported by the deep expertise in thin film measurement within ZEISS the challenge will be to develop innovative solutions that meet the unique challenges faced in this consortium. Travel between ZEISS and partner sites will cement the supportive network needed to reach the ambitious goals.

The geographic anchor point will be the ZEISS innovation Hub @ KIT. With the motto turning todays research into tomorrows applications together the ZEISS Innovation Hub @ KIT explores new technologies and application fields enabling the transformation of ideas into innovations. Here students researchers entrepreneurs and ZEISS employees meet at eye level and practice an open-innovation culture. For our team of researchers and engineers we seek a student to support us with pushing opto-electronic systems in the field of spectroscopy forward to make the chemistry of our world visible anytime and everywhere.

Your role

  • Rapidly develop a deep understanding in the state-of-the-art in thin film thickness measurements

  • Learn to directly lease with stakeholders to understand user needs and evaluate solutions from technical and business perspectives

  • Define and develop solutions and ultimately integrate them into a prototype coating machine

Your profile

  • A masters degree in physics photonics electrical Engineering mechanical engineering mechatronics or comparable field with excellent results (submit transcripts with application).

  • Knowledge in the field of optics and spectroscopy is a plus

  • Excellent organization problem-solving and communication (English) skills

  • Passion for innovation and enthusiasm for new technologies as well as motivation to work in agile interdisciplinary teams
