Job Duties

The Department of Labor and Industrys Division of Occupational Safety and Health is seeking a highly motivated and skilled professional to work as Occupational Safety & Health Discrimination Investigator. This position has statewide responsibilities and will be based in one of the following DOLI Regions: Richmond Roanoke Verona or Norfolk. Location determination will be made based on the successful applicants location and agency business need.

The role of this position is to investigate complaints of discrimination by employees who engaged in protected activities within the occupational safety and health field. This position ensures that complaints submitted by employees and former employees alleging discrimination under Va. Code 40.1-51.2:1 against private and public sector employers are properly screened investigated and conciliated or sent to litigation within 90 days of receipt and as directed by the Code.

Knowledge of federal state and local policies regulations and laws related to occupational safety and health and discrimination.
Experience with investigating complaints of discrimination.
Experience with conducting extensive investigative interviews.
Experience preparing reports.
Experience with determining case merits.
Experience with analyzing data.
Experience and ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Internet and e-mail software.
Strong effective verbal and written communication skills.

Additional Considerations

Certification or coursework in occupational safety/health civil or industrial engineering law or related field or considerable experience related to occupational safety/health law investigation engineering or a closely related area is desired.
Fluency speaking reading and writing Spanish.

Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid drivers license at the time of hiring or within 30 days of hiring.
Ability to travel overnight occasionally.
Ability to perform moderate physical activity that includes but is not limited to climbing stairs and ladders bending walking up and down inclines occasionally lifting and carrying loads up to 30 pounds etc.
The selected candidate must pass a criminal background investigation and successfully serve a 12-month probationary period effective from the date of employment if beginning employment as an original hire or re-employment.

Special Instructions:

The salary range for this position is $68000 to $84000 plus the States benefits package. The agency will not entertain salary negotiations for this position outside of the salary range.
