The position helps to achieve the mission implementation and goals of the Eagle Access Program at Dyersburg State Community College. This is a grant funded position through the Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging (DDA). This position works directly with students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The position reports to the Director of Eagle location of this position is at the JNC in Tipton County but will need to travel to Dyersburg Campus two (2) days a week.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist 20 hours per week in the Eagle Access program
- Initial assignment may be one or two of DSCCs teaching locations but the official work station assignment may change each semester dependent on demand.
- Build relationships with new and current students in the Eagle Access program.
- Assist and aid students in the program with academic progress social/emotional well-being employability and independent life skills development.
- Work with a range of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Work with the Director to assess the effectiveness of courses analyze the results develop and implement improvement plans and document this information each semester in the form prescribed by DSCC.
- Participate in professional development as requested by the Director if needed.
- Work with students as they navigate college extracurricular and academic activities and programs.
- Aid students with goal setting and transition to the work environment.
- Serve as a student chaperone as needed. Possibly driving 15 passenger van between locations with students.
- Recommend campus resources to students including academic specialists financial aid advisors counselors and learning specialists.
- Deliver instruction effectively utilizing research-based practices and principles from lessons set forth or approved by the director when needed.
- Serve as a liaison with college faculty staff and administration and community partners to support student success.
- Work with the Director to coordinate student internship job placement coaching tracking and reporting.
- When designated by the director work with employers to provide safe and productive work opportunities for the students by fostering a positive working relationship with local employers.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Sedentary: Desk work and ability to move around classroom to aid student learning; travel will be required for college or program activities. Insignificant effort other than normal movement. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Minimal Hazard/Exposure.
- Standard office settings. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to communicate well in oral and written English.
- Actively communicate with colleagues and students using email voice mail text and other electronic means. Normally responses are expected in no more than 72 hours.
- Knowledge of computer operating system Microsoft office and ability to navigate internet resources to support student growth and success.
- Ability to deliver continuing education lessons to students with the help of the director.
- Ability to maintain accurate complete and correct records for assessments evaluation and data collection.
- Ability to work with staff and colleagues in department and college committees and related activities.
- Ability to evaluate situations and make sound decisions.
- Ability to work flexible shifts (daytime only) when needed
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate Degree (completed or in process) in an Education Related field preferably Special Education
Pay is $18-$20 per hour.
