Description

Winchester Cardiology and Vascular Medicine is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) to join our clinical team as a Phone Triage Nurse. This position plays a vital role in supporting our physicians and Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs) by addressing clinical needs communicated through incoming phone calls and electronic messages. The Phone Triage Nurse is responsible for managing patient inquiries processing provider-directed tasks and ensuring accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR). This role is essential in maintaining quality patient care and operational efficiency while upholding the highest standards of confidentiality professionalism and clinical integrity.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming clinical phone calls and collect necessary clinical information.
  • Provide clinical direction when appropriate and within the nurses scope of practice.
  • Document all patient calls and send messages in accordance with established message protocols.
  • Complete prescription refill requests for all providers.
  • Relay test results to patients as directed by providers.
  • Manage and respond to voicemails in the Phone Nurse Outlook folder.
  • Review and respond to MyChart messages appropriately.
  • Maintain patient privacy in accordance with HIPAA regulations and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and team members to support care coordination and continuity.
  • Collaborate with providers and care team members to ensure timely follow-up on clinical needs.

As Needed Clinical Support Responsibilities

  • Warmly greet patients and escort them to examination rooms.
  • Accurately measure and document vital signs including pulse blood pressure respirations height and weight in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Record and verify all current patient medications in the appropriate section of the EMR.
  • Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) following established protocols.
  • Conduct a brief review of interim health history relevant to the physicians examination.
  • Notify the physician of any significant health changes hospitalizations or urgent concerns.
  • Retrieve and organize necessary reports hospital records or other documentation to support comprehensive patient care.
  • Assists patients in completing required forms such as health questionnaires and medical histories ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Inform the physician when the patient is ready for examination.
  • Provide assistance to physicians during examinations and procedures as needed.
  • Adhere to OSHA and HIPAA regulations to maintain patient safety and confidentiality.
  • Monitor inventory levels order and restock clinical supplies to ensure seamless operations.
  • Maintain clean organized and fully stocked examination rooms.
  • Perform additional tasks or services as directed by clinic management to support the team and ensure high-quality patient care.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
  • This position offers the potential for a hybrid work environment

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Virginia.
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain certification within 6 months.
  • Preferred: At least 1 year of experience in a medical office clinic or other healthcare setting.
  • Preferred: Prior experience working as a Phone Triage Nurse.
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA guidelines with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality and privacy of patient information.
