Job Description
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Assistant Costume Shop Supervisor/Draper the First Hand/Draper is responsible for cutting and patterning building costumes and conducting fittings for our Theatre and Dance activities. A typical 14-week semester includes three mainstage productions three studio productions and class-based and student-led performance projects.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Drape and direct the construction and/or alteration of costumes used in Theatre and Dance activities.
Assist the Costume Shop Supervisor and Assistant Shop Supervisor in garment construction and costume shop projects.
Assist the Costume Shop Supervisor and Assistant Shop Supervisor in keeping costume projects on time of high quality and within the allocated budget.
Pull costumes from stock as directed.
Assist with the maintenance of paperwork and the costume show bible to support department ran productions.
Work proactively and cooperatively with other technical teams to ensure the success of productions.
Attend technical and dress rehearsals and performances as scheduled including evenings and weekends.
Cultivate a positive and supportive learning environment for student designers and student technical workers.
Provide progress updates as needed on production related projects/tasks.
Ensure the costumes and equipment are properly prepared and secure.
Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.
Minimum one year of professional experience in theatrical costuming.
Knowledgeable in costume construction related disciplines including flat patterning draping cutting costume fitting procedures alteration techniques machine sewing (industrial and domestic) hand sewing costume construction materials such as fabrics interfacing closures and other notions and safe use and maintenance of costume shop machinery.
Working knowledge of costume history and period garment construction.
Valid drivers license.
Ability to lift 30 lbs.
Experience ability and commitment to creating a working environment that is supportive open and respectful.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED:
Experience with Costume Crafts dyeing/painting and millinery tools and methods.
Experience in an educational production environment and student mentorship.
General understanding of current best health and safety practice within the US Theatre Industry.
