The Opportunity


Triton Environmental Consultants Ltd. (Triton) is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Safety Supervisor to join a well-established team of environmental professionals.


The Safety Supervisor will be supporting site operations on a project located near Squamish BC. This is the perfect position for anyone who is passionate about environmental related work enjoys field site travel and can work a shift rotational schedule!


This position will entail working closely with front line supervisors operations staff project management staff and Tritons Corporate Health and Safety Manager to meet and exceed Tritons safety standards and to help achieve the corporate goal of zero safety incidents.


What Youll Do


  • Assisting in the development and implementation of project safety plans job hazard assessments and safe work procedures
  • Implementing and maintaining Tritons project Health and Safety standards systems and procedures
  • Conducting and documenting field site inspections to verify compliance with project plans policies and health and safety regulations
  • Identifying corrective actions to be taken when unsafe acts are identified during an inspection process; resolving issues of non-compliance; and providing education and mentorship to supervisors sub-contractors and project site personnel in matters of health and safety
  • Ensuring all required H&S documentation (subcontractor documentation health and safety inspections audits daily hazard assessments toolbox talks safe work procedures and meeting minutes) are effectively delivered organized and distributed
  • Lead or support incident investigations
  • Facilitate the development of corrective/preventive actions from incident investigations
  • Act as a Program Coordinator for the corporate Injury Management Program
  • Compiling reports statistics (leading/lagging indicators) and undertaking required inspections because of investigations
  • Identifying undesirable trends and providing appropriate recommendations
  • Establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with management project team members contractors and clients
  • Delivering toolbox talks and relevant training materials
  • Facilitate and oversee the corporate Stay at Work/Return to Work program and management of workplace injuries
  • Conduct competency evaluations and assessments of field staff in the corporate safe work program and procedures
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of injury prevention initiatives
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the Corporate Health and Safety Manager and the Project Manager


Note: Responsibilities may evolve based on business needs and your individual growth in the role.


What You Bring


  • Minimum of five years of relevant health and safety experience including having at least one year of leadership experience is preferred.
  • Possession of a CRSP Construction Safety Officer (CSO) or National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation
  • Thorough knowledge of BC provincial health and safety legislation policies and practices
  • Working level understanding of Health & Safety functions hazard identification incident investigations emergency response systems and ergonomics
  • Familiar with project construction best practices techniques and safety requirements
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills including the ability to listen carefully present information effectively and resolve conflict in a respectful manner
  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to health and safety issues identify problems generate solutions and make sound decisions
  • The ability to prioritize organize respond and meet deadlines in a complex safety environment.
  • Formal training of incident investigation methodologies and procedures
  • Demonstrated willingness to contribute actively in team activities
  • Strong computer skills including Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Detail oriented with solid organizational and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative working style
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience with OHS regulations and practices in a marine-based environment considered an asset
  • Valid Class 5 drivers license with clean abstract

Location & Work Schedule


This is a temporary work term position subject to start right away and targeted to go until the end of this year. However there is strong likelihood that therewill be work term continuation for either a one year work term and/or coming on full time permanent status.

Preference is to hire more local; candidate being based anywhere within the BC lower mainland area. However candidates residing outside of this area and within BC as well as AB province are still very much encouraged to apply!


Travel and site housing accommodations will be provided by the employer.


The schedule will include working a 14 days on & 14 days off shift rotational schedule. Please note that scheduling requirements could change and are determined by client project site requirements.


Compensation


The targeted pay rate for this position is $45.00 per hour. Paying above $45.00 per hour could be considered and discussed however the preference is to stay at this rate offering.


This position is overtime eligible since travel and shift work is required (pay being in line with BC employment standards legislation)
