Foremen are responsible for maintaining the highest level of quality and craftsmanship on the project. They are directly accountable to the project Superintendent and are their primary support on the project. They will be delegated sufficient authority to carry out responsibilities of the position. Foremen have day-to-day interaction with subcontractors and crew. An eye for detail and an ability to handle multiple tasks is critical for this position. They need to be adept at the interpretation of plans and respond to problems with viable solutions. A primary focus of the Foreman is coordinating the workflow to conform to the project schedule.
This position maintains day-to-day oversight for safety procedures and for the performance of subcontractors and provides leadership and mentoring to everyone on the crew.
Proficiency at this level qualifies the Team Member to progress to the Superintendent level.
Responsibilities
Personnel:
- Manages the crew schedule.
- Manages time effectively and delegates tasks where appropriate.
- Coordinate crew activities in start-up progress and completion of the project.
- Anticipate required resources and crew by scheduling work six weeks in advance.
- Analyze project schedule submit to Superintendent for scheduling crew members.
- Ensure that the quality of work performed by the crew exceeds company standards.
- Ensure the safety of the crew and all safety procedures are adhered to.
- Responsible for proper conduct of the crew
- Seek new ways and methods to increase productivity quality and morale.
Subcontractors:
- Confirm start date and duration of tasks and overall scope for scheduling subcontractors.
- Supervise coordinate and evaluate subcontractor activities as instructed by the Superintendent.
- Have a thorough knowledge of the job plans and specifications schedule scope of work subcontractor responsibilities and materials to be used.
- Ensure the site and project are prepared for the subcontractors arrival.
- Explain and insist on safety standards to ensure compliance.
- Establish relationships with the subcontractors crew leads.
- Establish an atmosphere of cooperation with all subs.
- Prepare and transmit a written punch list to each subcontractor and specify required completion deadlines.
- Document changes (i.e. authorize additional work verify time/materials quantities etc.)
Communication / Administration:
- Confirms and/or generates material orders FWOs and other transmittals.
- Submits all schedules reports and paperwork in a timely manner.
- Ensures all Team Member timecards are completed coded and submitted to the Superintendent in time for payroll processing.
- Attends and participates in production meetings when required.
Safety:
- Serve as Field Safety Officer.
- Comply with all OSHA standards for jobsite safety.
- Model safety behavior and practices at all times.
- Wear safety clothing gloves eye and hearing protection dust masks and other appropriate safety devices.
Overall:
- Have a thorough knowledge of local building codes.
- Make all efforts to eliminate punch lists (start process early to achieve zero punch list from the architect)
- Emphasize attention to detail required at the end of each phase.
- Track and care for all equipment on the jobsite.
- Maintain a clean and orderly jobsite.
- Serve as back-up to the Superintendent.
- Perform all other duties assigned by the Superintendent.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Physical strength and stamina ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50lbs.
- Manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination ability to handle feel lift operate and move objects tools or controls.
- Strong reading and math skills.
- Excellent vision and depth perception.
- Ability to work in a construction environment.
- Ability to sit stand walk climb bend dig go up and down stairs and ladders crouch and crawl and lying down.
- Exposure to heat and/or cold and inclement weather.
- Exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
