JOB SUMMARY:
Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for local government public engagement and high-impact projects The City of Melissa is seeking a dynamic Assistant to the City Manager to join our leadership team. This trusted advisor and hands-on collaborator will help drive key initiatives that support community engagement exceptional service delivery and a thriving internal culture.
As Assistant to the City Manager youll work directly with City leadership serve as a community liaison coordinate cross-departmental projects and lead outreach efforts that strengthen relationships between the City and its residents. This role requires strong judgment initiative and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Serve as a strategic partner to City Manager Assistant City Manager and City Council in advancing organizational goals and initiatives.
Lead community engagement efforts including events workshops and neighborhood outreach programs.
Act as a liaison between the City and civic groups residents volunteers and other stakeholders.
Coordinate and manage high-priority special projects from concept through execution.
Respond to citizen inquiries and concerns ensuring a high standard of customer service and transparency.
Support workplace culture and employee engagement initiatives.
Participate in the development of the annual budget and related planning processes.
Under direction of the ACM lead the Citys annual Citizens Government Academy and coordinate activities related to boards and commissions.
Participate in the implementation of organization-wide AI initiatives.
Develop Metrics to evaluate organizational performance.
Collaborate with other departments in developing and gaining City Council approval for the Citys legislative agenda. The position will serve as a legislative liaison state and local officials advocate on behalf of the City assist with the monitoring of legislative initiatives assist other professional organizations to advocate on mutual legislative concerns.
Monitor legislative activities and informs the City Manager City Council Executive Team and Department Directors of major intergovernmental policies and legislative issues affecting the City.
Prepare detailed reports memos and policy recommendations to support decision-making.
Facilitate cross-departmental teams and committees to solve problems and improve service delivery.
Stay current on trends in local government and bring forward best practices and innovative ideas.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
Bachelors degree in Public Administration Political Science Communications or a related field required.
Master of Public Administration (MPA) or related graduate degree preferred.
Previous municipal government experience required.
Experience in a City Managers Office including internships or ICMA Fellowships is strongly preferred.
Licenses:
Must possess a valid Texas Drivers License.
Skills & Competencies:

Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable with various technology tools.
