Overview:
Biology Dept. Lab Assistants work in Biology labs assisting the students with weekly lab activities. This is a very hands-on position in that lab assistants directly interact with students enrolled in the course to help navigate the use of scientific equipment (ex: microscopes) specimens used in the labs as well as teach lab techniques and answer student questions for increased understanding of the lab principles being explored in each lab.
Campus Location: Des Plaines
Length of Employment: 1 semester with opportunity for renewal

Hours Available: 5-10 hrs/week
Tasks Duties and Responsibilities (TDRs) and Learning Outcomes:
- Answer student questions about the lab activity ( CM TW EI)
- Perform demonstrations on proper use of lab equipment (LD TW EI)
- Meet and Work with a faculty mentor on a weekly basis (CM TW EI)
- Supervise open lab opportunities (LD TW EI)
- Hold weekly office hours for students in their class (PF LF CM TC EI)
- Develop study techniques for students with varied learning styles (CT TW EI)
Candidate Qualifications (Knowledge Skills and Other Abilities or KSOAs):
Candidates must have earned a grade of B or higher on the course for which they are lab assisting.
Candidates must provide one faculty reference who can speak to their qualifications for this position.
Strong leadership skills preferred.
Must demonstrate reliability and responsibility.
Strong communication skills necessary .
Eligible to Work in the United States.
Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours during fall and spring semesters.
