Job Description

Job Title: Dual Language-SPANISHTeacher

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Department: Assigned Campus and Level

Reports To: Campus Principal

Approved By: Superintendent

SUMMARY:

Provides students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. Enables students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

QUALIFICATION:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors degree from accredited university

At least one year of student teaching or approved internship

CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of subjects assigned. General knowledge of curriculum and instruction. Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior. Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program. Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students peers and parents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructional Strategies

  1. Assist coordinator in creating a student recruitment plan.
  2. Assist in the recruitment process as needed.
  3. Voluntarily participate in teaching the AVID elective.
  4. Ensure that all students have a signed contract.
  5. Involve student in taking responsibility for planning and presenting at the parent workshops.
  6. Use system established by coordinator and counselor(s) to communicate needs for schedule changes.
  7. Help problem-solve schedule changes that promote equity and access.
  8. Establish a relationship with AVID students content teachers.
  9. Develop a 4 or 6 year plan for all students.
  10. Ensure at least 50% of 8th graders complete high school credit-bearing algebra.
  11. Be knowledgeable about AVID objectives and grade level curriculum.
  12. Participate in on-going AVID staff development/curriculum articulation training.
  13. Supervise/coach tutors in own classroom.
  14. Provide on-going modeling for tutors regarding the use of higher level questions and ways to push students thinking.
  15. Assist coordinator with data collection as needed.
  16. Participate in the data analysis process to make program improvements.
  17. Monitor testing data for students in own classroom.
  18. Assist in the budget development process as needed.
  19. Assist coordinator in writing AVID Site Team Plan.
  20. Assist in preparing for certification as needed.
  21. Share implement and model AVID methodologies to colleagues and in regular content classes.

Student Growth and Development

  1. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  2. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  3. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by campus principal.
  4. Be a positive role model for students support mission of school district.

Classroom Management and Organization

  1. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.
  2. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  3. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  4. Assist in selection of books equipment and other instructional materials.

Communication

  1. Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents students principals and teachers.
  2. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues students parents and community members.
  3. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Growth and Development

  1. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

Other

  1. Keep informed of and comply with state district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  2. Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required.
  3. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  4. Maintain confidentiality.
  5. Participate in meetings and special events as assigned.
  6. Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work meetings and appointments.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises assigned teacher assistant(s).

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and responds to questions from administrators peers students parents and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical solutions.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. Frequent bending stooping pulling and pushing are required. While performing the duties of this job the employee will move small stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and other classroom equipment.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interacting with students the public and other staff.

The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud depending upon the activity being conducted.
