The Office of People and Culture at Mount Saint Vincent University invites applications for the contract position of Director Post-Secondary Accessibility Capacity Building.

What youll do

Responsibilities

The Director Post-Secondary Accessibility Capacity Building supports coordination and collaboration across Nova Scotias Post-Secondary education sector related to implementation of institutional accessibility plans and compliance with provincial accessibility standards. It also administers a dedicated budget to support capacity building project funding and operational funding to advance accessibility and meet legislative obligations within partner institutions.

Accountable to the Post-Secondary Accessibility Capacity Building Steering Committee and working closely with the sectors accessibility round table the Director will focus on activities that support common goals and priorities across institutions. This will include leading projects aimed at advancing areas where potential collaboration has been identified including:

  • Awareness and capacity building (e.g. develop resources deliver training host events to recognize Access Awareness Week and International Day of Persons with Disabilities)
  • Monitoring and evaluation (e.g. develop and implement data tools develop and implement data collection analysis and reporting across the sector)
  • Engagement with persons with disabilities and disability organizations (e.g. host collaborative engagement sessions develop engagement guides and focus group tools)
  • Policy review and development (e.g. review research and develop policies that could be adopted to advance accessibility and as accessibility standards are enacted to support compliance)
  • Obtaining shared resources and services (e.g. Braille printer accessible document software audit websites)
  • Updating institutional accessibility plans and Post-Secondary Accessibility Framework (e.g. develop tools to review accessibility plans coordinate review and update of provincial framework)
  • Work with subject matter experts (e.g. support engagement with institution staff in teaching and learning employment communications etc. to collaborate on other priority areas in the Post-Secondary Accessibility Framework)
  • Engaging with Accessibility Advisory Committees (e.g. develop resources host engagement sessions)
  • Compliance with Accessibility Standards (e.g. develop sector-specific tools to support compliance with accessibility standards)

The incumbent will be responsible for providing regular status updates and ensuring the mandate of the project is successfully implemented within the prescribed timelines and budget.

What youll need

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a Masters degree in public policy or health policy/promotion or another related field and five years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Designation in project management would be an asset. Expertise in Post-Secondary Accessibility needs is also considered an asset. Demonstrated knowledge of Accessibly policy best practice and legal frameworks particularly in the Post-Secondary sector is an asset. Experience in strategic planning change management and project budgeting is required. The successful candidate should have experience in strategic planning as well as strong relationship building and communication consideration of the area of focus for this position lived experience is also considered an asset.
