McMan Youth Family and Community Services Association of Calgary and Area is an organization making a difference in the lives of more than 4100 vulnerable children youth and families annually. We support children youth and families with complex needs that can include mental health issues addictions homelessness poverty and disability by providing them with the services and supports they need to thrive. As a fundamental practice across all McMan services we work with clients to help them maintain and grow relationships that can extend beyond our professional support life-long connections that can help people sustain and build on their strengths and new skills. The Milestones program is currently seeking someone who has a passion for working with children and youth with disabilities and their families. The Family Coordinator will be responsible for working with families to develop service plans teach parents strategies and tools to increase their capacity to positively parent their children and include them fully in family and community life. The Family Coordinator will also be involved in independent community work with families as well as potentially facilitating groups.
*This position requires a minimum of 3 evenings per week and participation in the organizations on-call rotation. This position covers the Calgary area with potential travel to Chestemere Strathmore and Airdrie.*
The ideal candidate will:
- Have a degree or diploma in Community Rehabilitation and/or Disability Studies or similar.
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of developmental disorders and experience implementing and modeling numerous behavioural and developmental strategies.
- Possess excellent organizational skills.
- Be able to work flexible hours that will include a minimum of 3 evenings per week and the ability to be on an on-call rotation within the organization.
- Work well within a team environment as well as independently.
- Possess capabilities in working with families who have experienced trauma working with Child and Family Services and/or assisting families in meeting basic needs such as housing food safety etc.
- Have current standard First Aid Certification and Suicide Intervention Training.
- Have a valid Drivers license and adequate insurance coverage ($2 million in third-party liability).
- Have a current Police Check and Child Intervention check (current within six months).
