Summary of Position:
The Major Gift Officer is responsible for planning and implementing major gift giving and high-level fundraising strategy for FBSJ. The MGO will manage a group of prospective individual donors with the potential to give $10000 or more. This position is responsible for researching identifying and cultivating relationships with prospective major gift donors and planned giving donors working to motivate donors to make major gifts to FBSJ.
Position Responsibilities:
- Develop and deepen relationships with a portfolio of 150 major donors and prospects.
- Solicit and facilitate meetings with major donor prospects who have the inclination and/or capacity to make a major gift of $10000 and above.
- Focus on securing multi-year commitments and effectively stewarding donors to increase donor retention.
- Conduct meaningful donor outreach and personalized engagement through calls emails visits and events on a regular basis.
- Formulate and implement strategies to achieve short- and long-term revenue goals.
- Prepare proposals solicitation letters gift agreements and other development materials for prospects and donors.
- Utilize major giving fundraising and marketing tools to track performance metrics and outcomes.
- Track and provide regular activity data. Maintain accurate records of donor engagement in the CRM and regularly report on portfolio progress and key performance indicators.
- Work collaboratively with the annual giving team and other departments as necessary. Partner with program finance annual giving and communications staff to develop compelling donor-facing materials and articulate the impact of giving.
- Identify research and qualify new major gift prospects in partnership with the annual fund team to ensure a robust and balanced portfolio.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Bachelors Degree required.
Experience and Skills:
Required:
- At least 5 years of demonstrated experience building strong relationship-based fundraising history and approach.
- Proven record of understanding and solid grasp of the donor cultivation lifecycle from identification qualification cultivation solicitation and stewardship.
- Experience using Salesforce or similar development software.
- Experience in public speaking and writing proposals.
- Ability to work both independently without close oversight and can work collaboratively within a team.
- Commitment to FBSJs mission vision and core values.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Highly professional resourceful and self-motivated.
- Acts with Integrity and portrays a positive attitude.
- Knowledge of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Code of Ethical Standards.
